Winter finally arrived this week at Casa del KatKnits, with snow and bitterly cold temperatures.

This put the urge to cook hot and hearty meals into overdrive! Baked Pumpkin Steel Cut Oats was first in the queue, perfect to give me a week’s worth of hearty and healthy breakfasts to eat! Turkey noodle soup was next, and oh so good. Which was followed by my take on Andrew Zimmern’s Beef Stroganoff – sans mushrooms as Steve is highly allergic to them – served on spaetzle, it was fantastic as well!

Next in the queue is more of that fantastic Oat Bread which will be baking later today.

There has also been some sewing this week, I have finished my first Tunic #1 and it is hanging while I ponder the conundrum – Pockets, or No Pockets. Steve says no, but I am undecided. I stitched it out of some mid-weight frosty grey linen that I got at…

Wait for it…

IKEA. Wait, what?

Yes, you read that correctly. And, I have to tell you, I like it! Bias tape made from left over fabric from my second Dress #2. If pockets come out the winner, I think they will be lined with the same fabric. I really love how Tunic #1 fits and I will definitely be making more of them!

Up next in the sewing queue is my fourth Dress #2 in some beautiful brown fabric that I got at Spool. Who, by the way, is also having some classes around Lotta Jansdottor’s new book, Everyday Style. Yeah, I know. My plan is to stop this weekend and sign up.

Lastly, there has been more weaving, and I still have more warp on the loom which I am hoping will be enough for a lovely gradient cowl with some handspun from Briar Rose Fibers. I have about 70 grams left from some socks I made and I think it will be just lovely.

As is this scarf, IMO – the weft is a gradient set I got from Blue Moon Fiber Arts eons ago. I am glad that I had no idea what to do with the yarns when I got them, because I think this is the perfect thing for them. I divided all the skeins in half, and then in half again. That way I have enough for a second weaving project – which this time will have a black warp, instead of white.

And that, Gentle Reader, is my random, yet productive, week thus far.
