Today, it seems that everything is about texture, from this morning’s glorious sunrise with the bubble gum clouds and black limbed trees to my knitting lately!

I have completed a couple more things for the Gift Basket, thanks to Natural Stitches 12 Days of Casting On!

This really was a genius plan and I owe them a huge thanks for helping me get a start on gift knitting that usually makes the end of November and all of December pretty stressed!

I knit another great pattern by Tin Can KnitsGather Cowl. I love how smocking gives such amazing texture and creates a warm, thick, fabric! The yarn I used was from the December 2013 Dream in Color Club – yeah, stash is such a lovely thing. The yarn worked well in this pattern, I was worried that it might be too stiff, but as with almost all knitting – a good Soak and a gentle blocking created a soft, warm fabric.

I also knit up a pair of Gale Zucker’s Trip Mitts out of Philosopher’s Wool. A nice easy, mindless knit that has big impact on texture. From the ribbing to the bind off – super simple and so smart! I would absolutely knit these again!

I have only a couple more projects left to complete from the Cast On Extravaganza! Would I do this again? Absolutely! And a cold and wintry January just begs for indoor activities like knitting!

Finally, on Friday I cast on for Kirsten Kapur’s Mystery Sock Knit Along – again, a project with some interesting texture! I love the twisted rib and the tiny cable detail. However, I did have to rip back eight rows (four on each sock) because I, apparently, need to wear my glasses to read charts. A minor setback which was quickly fixed. I am anxiously awaiting this Friday’s clue! If you have not joined us, there is still time, you can easily knit the cuffs between now and Friday!

I hope your Wednesday is full of texture just not the bumpy road kind!
