This week’s Think Write Thursday topic is to write a post about Star Wars. Do you love Star Wars? Hate Star Wars? Have you seen them all or none? What are your Star Wars stories?
A long time ago, in a place far, far away lived a girl. The year was 1977 and a movie came to the Holland Theatre and though the lines were long, she waited patiently. So patiently.
And, the lights went dim, and the movie started. And, from this very opening sequence, she was enthralled.
It was quite simply love with everything. Obi Wan, Young Luke, Han Solo, Yoda, and Princess Leia.
Fast forward a good number of years, just before the Episode 1 of the prequel was released. They showed Episode 4 in the Holland Theatre and I took my kids to see it in the same place I had more than 20 years before. The thrill I felt was still there but it was somehow even better at seeing the joy on my kids faces, especially Sam jumping up on the seat to fight with Obi Wan against Vader.
Each episode has been much loved by me, but my favorite will always be the first.
And, yes Yoda – may the force be with me always.

Sorry to be such a dud, but I’ve never seen any of the films. So May the Fourth be with you, and Happy Cinco de Mayo tomorrow. I’ll raise my margarita to you!
I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars movies, either — I mean, not in their entirety (just bits and pieces here and there, enough to know the general gist of the plot). But I think it’s about time I finally did, so Netflix here I come! Any recommendations for the order I should watch will be much appreciated.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane…I saw the first movie and that was that! The music of course will always be with me/us!
Cheers~
My little sis was the Star Wars fan in our family, and I remember standing in line — a VERY, VERY LONG LINE — at the theater with her to see it! I’ve always loved the excitement & anticipation of a long line at the movies! Oh, and I enjoyed the movie, too!
I had just graduated from high school in 1977 when the movie came out. It was THE “hot date” all summer long! Although I’m not a true Star Wars fan, I have seen all of the movies. You’re right, though — nothing will ever beat the “force” of that first one!
When those first 3 came out it was SUCH a big deal! I remember it well but then I lost interest.
I love what Bonny said! the limes are ready. and I have mint for Saturday, too!
My brother, who was then 16 or 17, took me to see the first movie (I was 27). He was excited to see my reaction to the opening scene (he’d seen it at least 5 times) and I was blown away. Otherwise, I think I would have been in the same place Bonny and Mary are.
I agree that the first is my favorite, too.
I’m a 77 grad as well and have seen and liked the first three. I may have seen the first prequel but it was a galaxy too far far away from that of 77…
