This week’s Think Write Thursday discussion with Carole gave birth to this week’s topic of discussion: We’re starting to feel like this whole Think Write Thursday thing isn’t going so well. Participation isn’t high and it’s been dropping off steadily for the last little while. We don’t want anyone to feel bad or guilty about not playing along – your blog, your rules! – but we are hoping we can revamp things a bit and kickstart some energy back into this weekly blog prompt. So, we’re going to try something new, sort of a riff on Three Things on Thursday. This week we are asking you to share 3 things on your To Do List with all of us. Everybody likes to write lists, don’t they?!
Yes, I am a list writer – of all sorts – things to not forget, things to get done, wish lists, gift lists, want to read lists, and yes – even knitting lists. I like to make my lists with a “check box” because there is nothing quite as satisfying as checking something off a list, amirite? After all, isn’t that why you write a list?
So, three things from my current “To Do List” that I have not yet completed:
- Find a recipe for “large tomato preservation”
- Haircut (which will be crossed off today! YAY)
- Find an optometrist to get my eyes examined
There you have it – three very diverse things. And, some obviously easier to complete than others.
The haircut might be the easiest – after all, I just need to go and sit while someone else does all the work. It has been a good bit of time since my last haircut and thoughts I have of “growing my hair out” only ever get to the length it is now and I give up and that is okay with me.
I have been poking around the internet a bit looking for something I can do with my collection of large tomatoes. I am thinking that a simple diced tomato would be a nice thing to have – maybe some with onion and jalapeno and some with basil. Those are my thoughts which look great on paper it is just getting all the canning stuff out and getting it done that is the hard part!
Finally, the last thing on my list – the Eye Doctor… for the past few weeks I have noticed that my “drug store readers” have not really been enough to see to knit or stitch certain times of the day. So rather than just going out and getting a stronger reader, I think it is time to find an eye doctor. Definitely not my favorite listed item, but perhaps the most necessary!
If you want to see what everyone else has on their list, you will find them here! And, if you would like to join us for Think Write Thursdays, you can sign up here.
Mmm…tomatoes. I have no peppers. 🙁 I grew them, just no fruit. Just tomatoes. I am thinking of freezing them instead of canning them.
The eye doctor is not so bad. I’ve been going since I was in first grade, because my eyes are a hot mess. They just keep getting progressively worse. And now I have cataracts starting. Ugh… This getting older is not for sissies!!!
I’m no help with the tomatoes, but I hope you do find something to do with them.
I was supposed to go to the eye doctor last week, but they called me as I was literally walking out the door because apparently it hadn’t yet been a full year since my last exam and my insurance wouldn’t cover it. So I’m rescheduled for early October now. It’s a pain, but I end up taking a sick day for it (no sense going to work if I can’t read because my eyes are dilated all day!), so it’s a good excuse to be home with my knitting. And my doctor’s office is pretty much around the corner from my house, so it’s convenient even if it’s an annoyance.
Yes to lists, and I’m fond of crossing out rather than checking off, but still the same feeling of accomplishment. Do you have freezer space to devote to tomatoes? I am not a fan of canning tomatoes. I did it for years, but was always afraid I would poison my family since I was just using a boiling water bath. Now the USDA recommends boiling quarts for 90 minutes or using a pressure cooker. I’m lucky enough to have a huge chest freezer plus a smaller one, so I just run my tomatoes through my food mill, freeze the pulp in 2 qt. containers, and then cook them down into sauce in the winter. Good luck with the list!
I like the idea of checking a box rather than just crossing off! Good luck with your tomatoes…I’ve got nothing for you there! And show us your haircut 🙂
I love either checking off a box or highlighting my “done”, lets me see what I’ve actually accomplished. Good luck on the tomatoes, I love tomatoes, so versatile.
Good luck with your list!
I love lists.
I have to mail the Twiddle Mitts at the local post office today
I already brushed the cats….cross that off list
and I need to schedule the car for attention next week.
I’m a crosser-outer rather than a checker-offer, but I think check boxes are WAY more charming. Hope you’ve made good progress with your list! 🙂
When I get ‘roun’to crossing off items on a list, I generally hilite…sorry, no help with the tomatoes and good luck wit your eye doctor: you have two choices: optometrist or opthalmalogist. Your insurance company can help you decide which to consider first, based on coverage…good luck.
Cheers~
I’m in the cross off camp, with a good dark pen. Super satisfying. I am known to add already accomplished items to the list just to have the satisfaction of crossing them off, on particularly scattered days when nothing else is getting completed .
I got to the eye doctor annually but I need to find a dentist. Did not like the last one and now I am horribly overdue.
All of my large tomatoes are made into Vicki’s Roasted Tomato Sauce. It is the easiest and most delicious way I’ve found to preserve the summers harvest. We enjoy using it all winter long as a reminder of the garden goodness. Good luck with the other things on your list!
I’m with Margene– every tomato large or small that’s being saved gets roasted now. I used to switch up sauces but we all like the roasted best. Plus, the house smells so. good.
Our tomatoes are still all green—fingers crossed they ripen before it is too late.
I just went to the eye doctor earlier this year, he does a great job and I love seeing. It doesn’t take much. Our little garden was weird, we had a ton of zucchini and the peppers were meh. The tomatoes tend to do well most of the time.
what a pretty glimpse at your TN! good luck with the glasses; I find myself wearing mine nearly all the time. I have prescription readers for knitting and they are AWESOME!
