I did indeed finish my first Thea Rachelle Raglan on Friday. Sewing time was about 2 hours total. Yes, I like it, but I need to make some pattern adjustments. The neck line needs to be a bit narrower and higher in the back, at least for a cold weather garment! I am not sure how easy those things will be to adjust – what with facings and all. However, this exact pattern would make a truly lovely summer top from linen!! So, yes! I will sew this again!
Saturday, we had the most amazing visitor in the tree in my front yard!! A Pileated Woodpecker!! I know – my heart about stopped. I was not quick enough to get a photo, but oh.my.gosh. A Pileated Woodpecker in my front yard! I am pretty sure it was a female, because I did not see any red stripe on its face.
More BIG excitement here on Sunday when the water main that supplies our housing plan broke leaving us with no water for most of Sunday afternoon and evening. I won’t even go into all the complaining that caused. However, things seem to be back to normal this morning and I have laundry underway to prove it!
I have been entirely enamored with Cara’s 100-day Sashiko Stitching Project. You should especially look at her stories…so.much.fun!
AND!! I started listening to the latest Armand Gamache installment, Kingdom of the Blind – I am limiting my listening time each day to make it last as long as possible.
How is your Monday looking?
Oh, your top looks great!!! How about a cowl to lessen the chill on your neck?
Absolutely no fun when your water is not functioning. Ugh.
Also not a fan of laundry. LOL
Glad the lack of water wasn’t that long – that can really be a PITA. The new top looks great! I agree with Karen – a cowl or silk scarf around your neck should do the trick.
Your TRR looks great (except for those snow flurries on it)! And what luck to see a Pileated! When I first started feeding with suet, I yelled to John that we had a Pileated Woodpecker, but then he explained all the differences between Pileated vs Red-Headed vs Hairy vs Downy. I’m still happy to see any woodpecker and I hope yours visits again!
We have pileated woodpeckers in our woods up north. They are QUITE a thing to see! They look downright prehistoric — and are So. Very. Loud. I’ve never seen one in town! How cool. 🙂 Your TRR looks great, Kat. Can you layer something underneath? Add a shawl? (If I have to adjust a pattern to make it fit . . . I usually don’t make it again. I’m too lazy to make fit adjustments . . . ) Glad your water is back!
My Monday is looking rather crazy, as evidenced by the fact that I am only getting a chance to check in on blogs now, during my lunch break.
Your top looks great and I agree that the pattern will make an excellent linen top for summer!
I think that’s a really lovely top you made! I’m glad your water is back on, too. I finished Kingdom of the Blind yesterday. I’m sad it’s over but I couldn’t hold myself back!
Glad you got your water back! Looks like you’ve had a productive weekend despite the challenges. Those woodpeckers are amazing, aren’t they? They must have been the inspiration for Woody, don’t you think? We have seen a pileated one a couple times, but more often we have downy woodpeckers or sapsuckers. The latter have done a real number on our birch tree!
No water! Eeek! Glad it’s back and that you had the visit of the woodpecker! I’m with Kym: wear something underneath your top. I promised myself I have a a bit of a backlog with Inspector Gamache – need to resume them, too read before I even entertain the new one.
Monday was A-OK for me.
Cheers~
Ahhh, Three Pines and Gamache! Enjoy!
Nice top. I admire all who sew garments. Would a T-shirt underneath and a cowl or shawl on top keep you warm? Ahh – Gamache. My hold on the audio of the latest book appeared last week just as I finished listening to Michelle Obama read her book. Such good fortune. Glad you water is back on – that sounds challenging.
Yes! I need some fabric on my upper back in the winter, too! 😉
We get pileated woodpeckers every now and then… and hawks and eagles, too!
Yikes! Glad your water is back.
Cara’s project has been very fun to watch… I am waiting for her to start her first Alabama Chanin project. 😉
Oh my goodness, how did you possibly entice your dress form to pose outside in the snow – in a top that clearly wasn’t gonna keep her warm 😉 Raising the neckline is most definitely above my skill level; Jane’s solution of a shawl sounds perfect! and whoa … glad your water is back on. make you think, doesn’t it?!
We get a pileated woodpecker only very rarely, which is weird because neighbors across the lake (1/4 mile away? 1/2 mile away? Really hard to tell distance across water) have them all the time. They are sooo impressive!
Can you wear a turtleneck under the tunic? That would be warm.
your top is fantastic!! I would be so sad not to have water, I lose my cool over the electricity outages every single time.
We’ve been seeing a lot of birds lately and we have a large picture window in the kitchen, and I need to get my bird feeders up.
