I am happily joining with Carole and friends this week to share some “ah-ha” things in my world this week!
Thing One:
Tuesday was local Primary Election Day in PA and turn out was sad… so sad. However, despite the horrendously poor turn out (we only had 82 voters in our precinct) the numbers were most interesting! The Democrat turn out beat the Republican turn out – in fact it was almost double! But the horrendously poor turn out meant I could spend more time talking with the people who voted! I met the gentleman who was Michael Chabon’s teacher and advisor when he was a student at Pitt! We talked about books and shared some “new to each of us” titles. It was almost the best moment of the day. The only better moment was the gentleman who was born in 1918 who came to vote. He still lives in his own home, he is very ambulatory, but his eyesight is “not what it once was” and he was happy that his son in law (who lives next door to him) drove him to vote. We should all take a page from this amazing 101-and-a-half-year-old man – voting is indeed our right and a privilege and we should exercise that right every single time we can!
Thing Two:
Book Bingo is on – and I “reset” the card twice and ended up with this one – lots of “ah-ha” things on here! And, I think it will work for my “Summer of Classics and New to Me Authors”!
Thing Three:
My final ah-ha moment this week was when I realized yesterday that this weekend is a LONG weekend! Now, I am hoping that Steve will be able to at least leave work early on Friday and our long weekend can be a little longer!

I wish turnout had been better on Tuesday, but since it wasn’t, at least you met and chatted with some interesting voters and had time to knit. It’s great to see your excitement about Book Bingo, and I think you’ll be able to fit lots of classics on that card. My aha moment was also that this is a holiday weekend; I thought it was next weekend!
I’m so impressed a 101 year old person would come out to vote! That’s commitment to life and the future. Your card is great! Read on!

I’m so inspired by the 101-year-old voter! If I’m lucky enough to get to that age, I hope I’ll still be as jazzed about voting as I am now!
Go, Old Guy!!!! My dad lives in a senior independent living apartment, with most residents in their 80s and 90s. Voter turnout there is INCREDIBLE. They take their voting very seriously! (I wish everyone did. . .)
I wish more people voted, I consider it a very serious responsibility. Hooray for the long weekend, let’s honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
We should all be inspired by that 101 year old man making it out to vote. My parents and grandparents took voting very seriously, especially my grandmothers who could remember when women did not have the right to vote. They used to stress the importance of voting to me and remind me that how they voted was a secret that they did not have to share with anyone!
It looks like you have a good bingo card and you should be able to fit some good classics into those categories. I printed my card and my goal is to fit books already on my TBR list into the categories. Happy reading!
I can’t say that I had an a-ha moment but I enjoyed reading about yours. I did wonder how we have come so quickly to Memorial Day weekend. The May election had a better than average turn-out but the numbers seemed low to me. We did elect a progressive woman mayor who believes in working together. She is articulate, thoughtful, and intelligent – a ray of hope.
