Greetings Unravelers!
I am back to patiently knitting my shawl and I am *almost* to the point where I get to do the little “flower” motif! Wooo!
As for Early Bloomer… I wore it on Monday and thought about the fit all day. Sadly, I have determined that I need to rip it back to the sleeve divide and re-knit the body… smaller. Yes, I am upset about this as well, so it is in a bit of a time out while I finish the shawl.
It might even stay in time out while I knit Romi’s new sweater.
This really caps off a very unfocused July and I have learned my lesson (or re-learned it – in my case!) No impulse knitting – it never turns out well…
The reading though…I am about a tenth of the way through War and Peace – 10-ish hours down…40-ish more to go. I am entirely engrossed with the story and the writing is very good – which is a very good thing when a book is so long!
I finished the third installment in the Inspector Lynley series – Well Schooled in Murder. I just love this series and am eagerly awaiting the next book – I am on the wait list at the library, and fortunately, I don’t think the wait will be long! It was another 5-star book and I highly recommend this series!
I also finished The Silent Patient… I am not sure where the recommendation for this one came, but oh boy. I thought it a bit contrived, I knew “who did it” almost immediately, and from there the remainder of the novel was quite predictable. I had originally given it 3-stars, but I downgraded it to 2-stars for the lack of originality. I do not recommend.
That is all I have this week! I hope your making has been much better than mine! What’s on your radar this week?
As always, if you wrote a post to share please leave your link below – and thank you!
Oh dear! So sorry about Early Bloomer. I think I would have to leave it in time out for quite awhile. Your shawl, however, looks great! Love the color of your yarn. I had not heard of The Silent Patient, but reviews seem to be either really low or really high! Lots of hype around this one.
love the shawl pattern and yay for getting close to a fun part of the pattern. I’ve been working on three projects trying to give every one of them some attention but when I’m with one I’m neglecting the others.
That’s a shame about having to rip back and reknit – I’d definitely leave that one in time out. I give you HUGE props for having the stamina to read War and Peace!
War and Peace is so good… but a REAL investment! 🙂 Impulse knitting bites me in the butt almost every time. (I think I’m finally learning, but, well. You never know!). XO
Ugh to unraveling. Hoping August finds you back in focus.
Sometimes an impulse is good … other times, not so much. Sorry about the ripping out of Early Bloomer, but it really is a lovely sweater and better to correct the issues (after a timeout)! Your shawl looks lovely and golden, and you know it will fit!
Oh, I read War and Peace a few months ago! Once you get into it, it’s really doable. Though I have to admit, some of Tolstoy’s rants about politics and humanity started to irritate me after a while. But then I had invested so much time in it already that I did finish it anyway.
Sorry for all the unraveling you had to do. The shawl looks great though. Such a lovely, rich color.
I’m sorry you have to rip but you’re going to have a pretty little shawl soon! I admire your War and Peace effort. Scarlett O’Hara did me in with 50 hours. I’m going to need another couple of years before I can take on that investment again! 🙂
I’m sorry you had to rip! The shawl will be absolutely lovely. I admire your commitment to War and Peace! Scarlett O’Hara did me in for 50 hour listens…it will be a while before I’m over that! 🙂
I am sorry to hear about the need to rip back, but at least if you’re knitting a smaller body, the reknitting will be faster!
War and Peace sounds like a slog, but a worthwhile one. I will get to it eventually, but I think perhaps it might be best as an audiobook when I am on vacation.
The shawl looks so pretty. I am sorry about the sweater. I think I’d put it in time-out also. It is always so disappointing to finish a project and discover it needs reworking.
I’m knitting a scrappy shawl and searching for my next audio book listen.
Romi’s new sweater would be a fantastic knit! I admire you for tackling War and Peace. Not sure I could stay focused that long!
Am planning fall knitting in the hopes that when I return from my trip at the end of August it will be more fall-like. I’ve acquired quite a bit of yarn since a LYS is closing so I’m putting myself on a yarn and pattern diet. Have you seen the Inspector Lynley series on PBS? Sooo good.
