September Unraveling is going well… and with no unraveling to date! I have indeed finished Reagan’s sleeves and have begun the lace work, although the sweater looks like a great grey blob right now! As I write this, I am completed the first repeat of the pattern and am well into another repeat with approximately 12 inches more to go! I am really happy with this sweater and think that this will absolutely be a much better use of the yarn. The lace pattern seems like it will be easy to memorize and once I have gotten through another repeat, I hope that I will not have to look at the pattern for each row.
I am *this*close* to finishing my Rose pants, and they would be done already but I could not find elastic for the waistband anywhere.in.this.house! I know I bought elastic but who knows where I put it…so I need to head to JoAnn’s to pick up some more. (Which means I am guaranteed to find that missing elastic no later than Friday! LOL)
The reads this week were varied and so interesting!
I wanted to re-read The Handmaid’s Tale before The Testaments was released and I did! Last time I listened to Claire Danes read it, this time I read it. It is curious that different things stood out to me in the re-reading of the story. I enjoyed it more than the first time and found that sometimes a re-read is the best thing ever!
I also listened to Madeline Albright’s Fascism: A Warning. Wow. Brilliant! Simply brilliant. I wrote a more detailed review here, but I highly recommend this book!
I found myself with a bit of a gap in my library wait list, so I did some digging to see what was available and found two fascinating books by random chance!
First, I found Paul Auster’s Report from the Interior, read by the him. This book was unexpected, brilliant, I felt some crazy connections and *being of a certain age* I loved it. I need more Paul Auster books in my queue, so I have plugged a few more titles of his!
Next in my searching I found Mitz, The Marmoset of Bloomsbury by Sigrid Nunez – I had read The Friend by the same author and thought the concept of this very short book was worth a try. It is a small slice of the life of Leonard and Virginia Woolf and their marmoset, Mitz. Funny, sad, quite interesting, and not at all a bad way to spend a few hours.
That’s all I have for this week – what about you? What are you making and reading this week?
As always, if you wrote a post to share, please leave you link below and thank you!
You’re so close to finishing that sweater and I can’t wait to see it!
I just read Once More We Saw Stars and it was phenomenal — sad but beautifully written. And my copy of The Testaments arrived yesterday, so I started it last night!
Your sweater may look like a gray blob, but it’s a beautiful gray blob! I am reading Once More We Saw Stars because I was moved by Sarah’s lovely review, and it was available when I went to pick up my hold on The Testaments. So I’m basically reading the same books as Sarah and working on another Wollmeise sock blank Hitchhiker.
Oh, Kat! So close! Can’t wait to see the gray blob revealed as a beautiful new sweater! 🙂
I really liked the Madeleine Albright book too. I was really disturbed though, when reading that Mussolini used the term “drain the swamp” to get support for his government. Yikes.
that is the prettiest gray knit ever. I finished another cowl and I’m trying to finish a lace weight project so I can cast on something different and very wooly!!
Oh yes! You are so close. Can’t wait to see your gorgeous Reagan!!! I just requested the Marmoset book from my local library – that looks like a fun read.
A wee bit of unraveling here but not too much. I started listening to Handmaid’s Tale but I’m a bit distracted so I kind of got lost.
Between library books? Blasphemy! hahaha I am still knitting that damn peace cowl. How’s that for not being peaceful? And I’m reading The Home for Unwanted Girls. I’m almost finished and it’s good. Not earth shattering or anything but a good story.
I always love getting your book recommendations! In fact, I’m forever in your debt for steering me toward Louise Penny. How did I not know about Three Pines before?!!! Sounds like you’ve read some interesting ones lately. I’m especially interested in the Madeline Albright book.
Good luck with Reagan! I absolutely love the look of it. 🙂
I am looking forward to seeing that gray blob take shape. I predict it is going to be lovely. I reread some books early in the summer and found it to be good use of reading time. I find I slow down a little because I know how the story turns out and then savor the language. I am working on the same three projects – a sock, a pair of mitts, and a sweater. Reading the same book Arctic Dreams but enjoying it all.
I’m looking forward to seeing your grey blob come to life as well! I think it will be awesome! I’m finishing up a baby blanket, a shawl (bind-off only!) and considering trying to bang out Felix before I head on a trip 10/15…we shall see!
That gray blob is looking lovely … and wow, I can just imagine how pretty it will be finished and blocked! and thank you for the reminder that I do need to re-read Handmaid’s Tale – I’ve read and listened and intend to listen again (do we know who’s narrating the audio? surely it’s not CD again or Sara would’ve alerted me?!)
