Bis zum nächsten Mal, January! But, in actuality – you weren’t so bad! I was inspired by Katie to track A Year of Temperatures and I started on January 1 and I am really stunned at how warm it has been! In these past 31 days we had 2 days in the 60’s, 6 days in the 50’s, only 2 days in the 20’s, and the rest of the month rested easily in the 30’s to 40’s. A January Thaw on Global Warming! (Also, we did not have much sun in January… sigh.)
It’s Super Bowl Ad Weekend (for those of you who only watch for that aspect of the game!) Carole shared a great one this week and I am jumping right on that band wagon with one that I chuckled over. I live in an extremely Alexa-fied house and this really hit home!
I heard this fascinating piece on NPR this week and in case you don’t like either football or ads – streaming on Amazon Prime, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is so binge-worthy and yes… her outfits are to die for and I love every.single.thing.she.wears! It is truly a wonderful series and I highly recommend it!
In the I did not have enough to knit category – I have been oogling my daughters hat with some serious Hat Envy and I had enough of the main yarn to knit another one, but not enough KSH, but I did have some grey so I cast on and knit myself a hat in one day. Yes, yes, I did! It needs a bit of a soak and a pompom and it will be done. I really love how they are a warm and cool version of the same hat! Never fear, I have now returned to my Pheasant Pullover and will be dividing for the sleeves this morning!
Are you wondering what caught my eye in the knitting world this week? There were a few things that I did like:
- The Kokebi Sweater by Lucía Ruiz de Aguirre, I just love the texture of the body! This would be a great transitional piece!
- Isabell Kraemer’s The Purl Code Cardigan also caught my eye! Again, varied texture (and I love how Isabell does her shoulder to sleeve transition!)
- Finally, the Lozenge Cowl, knit from Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool which is so pricey, but I think this would work well in any yarn with gradual color changes! (Also, this is a free pattern!)
That’s all I have for this week – have a great weekend and I will see you all back here next week!
Some warmth in January feels nice, but it does make me worry more about global warming (which makes me concerned for a possible four more years of him, and then we’re really screwed environmentally and in all other ways, but I’ll try not to get ahead of myself.) Your hats are gorgeous and I think I may (eventually) come around to Alexa. The Comcast guy was here this week and spent a good 30 minutes singing her praises, from thermostats to security. I’m just not sure she can do anything that I can’t still do for myself. 🙂
Your coordinating hats are AMAZING!! I love them!
Hm. I have a little google-y thing that I talk to once in a while (less since I got my iPhone, though… I used to say, “Hey, Google! Where’s my phone?” more than anything, I guess). And I have an app on my phone for my thermostat at home and that’s pretty cool. I dunno…
Love the hats and that last link is a really cool cowl pattern – thanks! I’m not an Alexa person at all. I had a free one delivered to me at work and I couldn’t even give it away – I donated it – lol.
Gorgeous hats!!!
All I have is my iPhone…no Alexa over here. LOL
Love the patterns. One is at no cost and one has a coupon. Nice!! 🙂
I will be passively watching the football game (I will pay attention to the ads, not the game play). We will have friends over and one likes to knit! Lovely wispy hats!
I haven’t minded the lack of snow this month, but the constant gray is really getting me down (at least when we usually get snow, we get some sun after the storm moves through).
I love the hats! I’ve been thinking that I need to start adding mohair/silk laceweight to all the hats I knit now because they’re so cozy.
Both of those sweaters caught my eye as well! Looking forward to the commercials on Sunday. Have a nice weekend Kat!
I like the idea of recording the weather for a year! It started out at -15 this morning and made it to a balmy 27 this afternoon.
Fun post! Luv Luv the hats! And the Alexa spoof, too funny. Enjoy the game and your weekend!
Cheers~
I fell down a Miromesnil https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/miromesnil hole yesterday afternoon when I saw Espace Tricot Melissa’s WIP on Instagram. and I might’ve even ordered yarn this morning 😉 I am not at all excited about the football tomorrow, but I plan to watch the commercials. haven’t seen any so far, but I’m hearing a lot about them!
We are an Alexa-fied household, too. Lights (the routines are great), music, news, thermostat, you name it! The commercial cracked me up, especially the one where the witch took his pants. LOL
I love the hats! And thank you for the links to patterns. They brightened up my day. I’ll probably read during the Super Bowl while my dear husband watches it down in the family room.
No Alexa here, but love the commercial! The hats are wonderful, Kat. They look so warm and cozy — and I like your gray version even more than your golden version. 😉 It’s been super warm here this winter, too . . . although we haven’t gotten into the 50s at all. (But close today.)
So I’m hoping that watching Mahomes proves be be worth the time invested in watching the game. He is so cute! The same for the commercials. I just need to find a way to silence the commentators without silencing the whole game!!! Those hats-stop you temptress.
Color coding the temperatures is such a great idea! I can’t wait to see your entire year filled up – that is so cool!
YOU KNIT A WHOLE HAT IN ONE DAY?! You are amazing!
No super bowl for me last night – I stayed busy with my notebooks. But my husband watched and I didn’t hear a lot of laughter from him, so I’m thinking the ads weren’t as great this year? Totally anecdotal, of course!
I am knitting that very same hat, except I am leaving out the pattern rows because why not. I love the idea of combining a silk mohair yarn with a smooth one. Lots of ideas on that.
