Greetings Unravelers!
I am making small bits of progress in the making department. On Saturday, I jumped on the bandwagon to try making a sourdough starter. Starter Success Achieved! I loved having a tiny reminder to go and take care of it every day. And yesterday I had enough “discard” starter to make a batch of Blueberry Sourdough Muffins, which were so good. They are not too sweet, and that delicious tang of sourdough made for the perfect “second cup of coffee” companion!
I picked up a big bunch of banana’s at Trader Joe’s on Friday and they are slated to become a loaf or two of Sourdough Banana Bread!
My knitting this week has been mainly focused on those mystery socks. The charted stitches are just what I needed…a simple pattern complete with some soothing repeats.
March reading saw a significant slow down…focusing on anything has been a challenge. I only read seven books this month, one of which was an audiobook. The best book of the month was Apeirogon, with 5-stars.
Felon: Poems by Reginald Dwayne Betts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Challenging poems that speak volumes, but the redacted poems… wow. Brilliant.
The Blackhouse by Peter May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A mystery within a mystery! The stories unfold slowly, intertwined together until the end when they are solved. I enjoyed the story tremendously and will be reading more in this series!
And that is all I have for today! If you wrote a post to share, please leave your link below and thank you!
Yay for all of the baking – such a lovely way to spend your time during this weird spell that we are in! Not much reading from me lately either, but that seems to be common these days.
Thanks so much for hosting!
I find baking (or cooking in general) to be good therapy. I’m in the minority in that I do not like sourdough, but your plans do sound tasty. I did make banana bread with the addition of blueberries and that is so good. I’ve not been reading much either. Hard to concentrate. I’m hoping for a bit of sun so I can get out and walk today!
Thanks for the Peter May recommendation! I always love getting turned on to a new series.
I love the colors of your socks! I’m not much of a baker, but it slowly works its way up on my list of things I could do…
I was given sour dough starter many years ago (decades?) and had great fun in it. I am now cooking nearly every day. What was once a wish for a well curated menu plan has become a necessity in these times. I achieved my goal by force! My reading has been low as well.
A few years back, I made sourdough bread every week. My original starter lasted for nearly 2 years . . . until it didn’t. (Let’s just say . . . when it goes, it goes.) It’s so satisfying to make your own sourdough bread — and I’m so glad you’re finding joy in it these day! Happy knitting – and happy reading.
I love sourdough bread and think I also need to get my own starter started. The delightful tang of that bread would be welcome, so thanks for giving me something to do today and to look forward to!
Loving the colors in those socks! Sour dough starter…hmmm I’m not good at something that has to be addressed every day! Except Boone of course! 🙂
Many years (decades) ago, I made sourdough bread every week…loved it! I shall have to try the sourdough starter. Looking forward to seeing the mystery socks,,,
Could be that these different times are just causing the “reading slowdown.” One would think otherwise but clearly our cycles have been impacted…
Take care and bake/knit on!
Cheers~
I loved the Blackhouse too – what a story/stories!
I made crumpets the other morning with my discarded starter. The recipe came from the King Arthur Flour blog, you should check it out!
I need to get crumpet rings! 🙂
Was that quick to get your sourdough started? seems like the folks on Bon Appetit have been starting theirs for over a week? anyway … yay for baking success!!! and for good reading. I am binge-ing through a combo cozy mystery/Victorian romance series and enjoying every tongue-in-cheek moment! (also loving reading on my kindle – I’m having to look up a surprising number of words)
So far, I’ve resisted the baking. That would be a slippery slope for me right now!! Looking forward to seeing those socks progress!
I look forward to seeing those socks. Great colors. So interesting that most of us are experiencing a reading slump. As long as it’s taken me to read Virginia Woolf’s A Writer’s Diary, I feel like we could become best friends. Baking is comforting. I’m just trying to make my flour last.
It has been hard to not give into the baking. Maybe once our freezer empties out a bit I will as I know that’s where most of what I’d make will end up. I’m seriously thinking about the whole sour dough bread thing right now.
