Just to show you all how completely out of sync my brain is… I thought that today was the day to update you all on my word.
Good thing that I have one more week for that so that I can try and do something with my word this month because I have basically avoided my word this month despite my inner-self trying to ย get me back on track:
Self: Hey… you should be moving forward with somethingย on release.
Me: Lalalalalalala… I don’t hear you!
Self: How about ANY.THING?
Me: ….
The theme for this month… one bite at a time… so in this last week of August I am going to try a bite or two on my word. Maybe. Hopefully….?
Anyways, I am back and it feels good to be back despite not really accomplishing momentous last week. I had over-achiever goals of having a blog break filled with epiphanies! And… I confess that there was not a single epiphany. Nope… but what I do have is a whole lotta bupkis, drowning in the Sea of Overwhelmed.
Is it just me or does it seem like All The Shite is hitting the fan at.the.same.time. COVID numbers are once again insane. Voter Suppression is alive and well and expanding in America. The news seems to be all bad and on steroids… even my 15 minute Up First fix in the morning is overwhelming. I don’t know about you but my stress level is moving to the Off The Charts range once again. Sigh.
In the plus column for my week away… I have a well-cleaned refrigerator thanks to 18 hours without power. The freezer fared much better with only a few things lost, whew! I taped two “pattern puzzles” together and got them both traced off! I have a finished “neutral” shawl for the fall (big reveal on Wednesday!!) and I also have finished the knitting of my second test knit sweater… it needs a soak, a little blocking, and some button bands (I am going with crocheted bands this time) and then a bit of needle felting the steek – so while it is not completely done, it sure feels like the biggest part of it is! And for once, I do NOT have a new project ready to cast on! Instead, my plans for this week include getting two pairs of pants and a shirt cut out, marked, and begin sewing!
That is all I have for today! How was your week?
I will see you all back here on Wednesday to Unravel some reading and knitting!
Your week sounds like it was full of accomplishments! (Not that you needed to get anything done while you were recharging.) Your Self sounds as pesky and bothersome as mine, but I may need to ignore her for a while for a recharge of my own. Welcome back and I’m looking forward to seeing your shawl on Wednesday!
Thanks, Bonny! We are our own worst enemies aren’t we? It was a good “stay-cation” ๐
Welcome back!!!
Maybe your best epiphany was NOT having one? Sometimes you just need to unplug.
Sorry about your power. Mine was out for almost 4 days. ๐ I also have a completely cleaned out refrigerator AND freezer. Ugh.
Can’t WAIT to see your shawl! ๐
Enforced fridge/freezer cleaning is the worst. But that task is one that I put off far too often…sigh. I am thankful that my outage was only 18 hours… although it seemed an eternity… 4 days, ugh. I am so sorry!
It sounds like your week off was a good one but I also think you need to build a bubble around yourself to protect your soul from the crushing overwhelm of the news right now. Be informed, yes, but try not to ingest it if that’s possible.
I agree with not ingesting… but not doing that and maintaining a bubble is so hard. News aside, it was a very nice week away!
It does sound as if you have been busier than you imagine. At least busier than me, if that makes you feel better! Also, you might just need to “release” yourself from the pressure of releasing something! Looking forward to seeing your completed work.
I’m having a coleus crush over here ๐ And I have to say, you have an incredible plus column…
As for your week away, I think your fridge was on to something. The Unplug. I find that I have to set myself up for downtime, as kind of silly as that sounds. Tell myself that there is no expectation of me during {X} time–other than to have no expectations. It helps me settle into it more. (Trouble for me is, it’s kind of tempting to stay there! It’s probably why I was gone for 2 weeks instead of 1!!)
I like this idea of “relevant busyness” I am going to go with that! And you are so right on that release concept. ๐
A long power outage is never a good thing except for the fridge/freezer clean-out that it forces you to do. I hope you didn’t lose too much! And I’m honestly not surprised that you didn’t have any huge accomplishments last week, given all the terrible news in the world. In the face of all that, it’s an accomplishment just to stay on a moderately even keel and not get dragged down into (as Anne Shirley would say) the depths of despair.
I’m looking forward to your sweater and shawl reveals!
The news… it just is worrying. Fires, storms, flooding…of biblical proportions coupled with man’s inhumanity to man. Well, it is not easy to ignore.
Ugh about the power on top of everything else. Best wishes for a calmer week – in your head for sure! – and some lovely sewing.
Calmer head space is exactly what I am looking for! ๐ Thanks, Mary!
The clean fridge and freezer sound like the silver lining in a long power outage. I’m with Bonny – your pesky self sounds like mine. I hope when the weather turns to autumn I have a little more energy. Looking forward to seeing your shawl.
Perhaps the best silver lining given how frequently I move “clean out the fridge” from month to month! ๐
I love a nice and clean refrigerator but I hate to hear it was because of a power outage!
Your bonus paragraph is lovely – I can’t wait to see your new sewing projects and the knitting you’ve been doing. I missed you last week!
Thank you, Katie! I am excited to get sewing (the run up to that is not my favorite part… laying out, cutting, marking, etc…)
Enjoy the sewing, Kat! It sounds like you had a fruitful week off. XO
I have had four FORCED refrigerator and freezer clean outs, I did not take it gracefully when it cost $400. Lucky for me I have a new house that is supplied by penn power and according to my sister the electricity goes out for maybe an hour at most. Thank God!
