Is for lists of things… good and not so great. I would ask you if you want the good or the not so great first, but since you are not here… I will get the not so great out of the way. If your Monday is Monday enough without any more not so great, please skip ahead to Thing Three!
Thing One… today is my sister’s 58th birthday and it has been 3 months since I have heard a word from her. I am holding on to the thought that no one has contacted me with bad news… Still, it was so easy to get used to talking again…however brief… and even though it was simply because she had hit the bottoms bottom… I miss talking to her… even it if it just to listen to her version of truth.
Thing Two… (as if Thing One was not depressing enough) 100 days into 2022 and Pittsburgh has had 4-whole-days-of-sunshine. 4-freaking-days. I am more than ready for some prolonged moments (days? weeks?) of sunshine. Also… I am going to remind myself of this in August when it is 90-gazillion degrees and we need rain.
The remainder of my list is for your ears… things to listen to while you work on your Monday list.
Thing Three… This morning Season Five of Poetry Unbound began! Ahhhh…and this morning’s episode was exactly what I needed (“I put myself back into the trance…weather, gossip, news”)… because of course poetry helps all things…and even more Pádraig’s commentary… it helped me make sense of my void.
Thing Four…Thankfully, Jon Meacham has returned with another podcast offering. I have listened to several installments… they are short… and so lovely. If you like history, then I think you will enjoy Reflections of History.
Thing Five… Ocean Vuong. His latest book of poetry, Time is a Mother, was released on the 5th. You can listen to a beautiful interview here from NPR’s Book of the Day podcast. I found myself nodding with so much of what Ocean shared with Rachel Martin.
I hope your Monday is gentle… see you all back here on Wednesday.
Your sister in in my daily prayers, may she be well. My gram has said ‘no news is good news’ but that doesn’t help when you are worrying about someone.
Hoping your sister is enjoying her birthday and gets in touch.
I will keep you and your sister in my hopes and wishes, and hope and wish that you can talk again soon. Four days sounds awful! I am sending you some virtual sunshine; it’s cold but clear and sunny here. And I will be listening to Poetry Unbound. Thank you for the link and a great way to start Monday!
Well, your good things are very good! I do hope and pray that your sister is well and ok Kat. I’m sure it is so freakin’ hard to not hear from her or be able to get in touch. And Thing 2, I’m not sure where we are in the Eastern part of PA with sunshine versus cloudy days…but I sure do know how gloomy it has been! But right now the sun is shining and I am planning to get out and walk at some point! Hoping your Monday gets a bit better my friend.
Wow, 4 days of sunshine is not nearly enough. Hopefully the sun will shine SOON!
I hope your sister contacts you sooner rather than later. Sending her best wishes for her birthday.
I will have to listen to your poetry selections later this evening. The darn job just gets in my way!!! 😉
I had a brother who didn’t keep in touch, even though we lived in the same city. It’s a difficult path to travel and I’m keeping you in my thoughts as you navigate this. And I sure hope you get lots of abundant sunshine really soon!
Wishing you more sunny days–both literal and figurative. While I have a strong hunch you find plenty of small celebrations and ‘see the light,’ it’s painful when people we care about deeply come…and go…without notice. Thinking of you as you continue to walk through it.
I saw the same statistic about the number of sunny days — but I think what that completely discounts is that while we haven’t had many days with complete sunshine, there are plenty of days where we have at least a little. And I really try to make note of those times when the sun is bright and the sky is blue, even if I know they won’t be that way for long. I suppose you could say the same thing about your relationship with your sister, and I hope that you are in touch with her soon. I know you’ve done a lot to help her and that it hasn’t always helped, but the important thing is that you are still caring about and for her, even when you’re not in contact.
Oh, it’s been like that here, too. (Gloomy and cold and rainy/snowy, I mean.) And I am SO SICK OF IT. We had a glimpse of sun yesterday, but it was too brief and it’s gone again anyway. (Doesn’t look like it’ll be back anytime soon, either). And I’m so sorry to hear about your sister. Sending XOXO and all the good juju.
I am sorry to hear about your sister. I will hold a good thought for both of you. The weather has been pretty gray here although we have had a few more days of sunshine. I’m ready for warm Spring.
I hope you hear from your sister soon. Family stuff is tough – hang in there. And I hope you get some sunshine soon, too!!
But yay for the good things! Poetry and (short!) lovely podcasts are wonderful. Thanks for the tip about Jon Meacham!
