Is all about books!
Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.

While we were very much a Harry Potter House… there was a good bit of Lemony Snicket to fill the ‘regularly scheduled reading time’… and I very much concur with the above quote! My only addition to the above quote would be knitting!
Anyways, I book marked this page from NPR a couple of weeks ago and have been spending bits of time adding things to my TBR List! The link also includes book lists going back to 2013! Why is that good thing? Well… things that were “hot reads” in 2013 are likely to be available at your local library… just in case you need a new read right this very minute! Ha!
Things that have popped out to me that I have not read from the couple of lists I have gone through:
- The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Stroud
- This House is Haunted by John Boyne
- When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
I finished a very good book over the weekend… Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher. It is the perfect book to read as the days race on towards Christmas. It has the very best characters and the most delightful outcome. It will warm your heart! If you have not read it, perhaps you should (and if you have Hoopla available from your library, it is always available there!)
There you have my Sometimes Monday thoughts..and with a book in hand my ears, I am off to get those pesky chores started!
Happy Monday all!
Ahhhh, those pesky chores – good luck with them! Thanks for the link to the NPR list. I keep an excel sheet with a list of books TBR which grows weekly or daily thanks to bloggy friends. Not a bad thing though! My debate now is what to take to read on vacation….
I’ve just started to peruse this year’s NPR list and found Very Cold People by Sarah Manguso available at my library, so that’s what will be in my ears during today’s chores (unless I can find Winter Solstice). Sometimes we do need to read something good right now, and these are the lists to check!
I’ve been thinking about how I want my 2023 reading year to be like. I do want to continue to chip away the ‘have not read’ books that I moved to this house and then once read get them out of the house. Also I want to resume reading about Auschwitz and the Holocaust. But of course I need to leave wiggle room for impulsive reads!!
I’m currently reading Winter Solstice and I agree with you, it is just perfect for this time of year!
Love Rosalind Pilcher! The Shell Seekers is one of my all time favorites.
Oooh, I didn’t think to check Hoopla for Winter Solstice! That may be a good read for my vacation.
I read When Breath Becomes Air several years ago. A most excellent, poignant book.kmkat
I just started Burgess Boys last night, Kat. I read it when it first came out, but it’s time for a re-read. And . . . I started listening to Winter Solstice over the weekend. (I’m pretty sure I’ve read it before, but maybe not???) I put another book down (struggling to get into it) for now. I need comfort and ease in my reading here at the end of the year, and I’m pretty sure Elizabeth Strout and Rosamunde Pilcher will be JUST what I need as the year winds down. XO
Thank you for four books I’ve not read. I’m adding them to my tbr lists! I can’t go away without at least three books, knitting and a small cross stitch kit, just in case!
The Burgess Boys is also on my list for 2023! I want to read all of the Elizabeth Strouts next year 🙂 And so glad you loved Winter Solstice so much. I’m still inching through it and am loving every second of it!
I have Winter Solstice on hold but I don’t think I’ll get it before Christmas. I really loved When Breath Becomes Air.
I have Winter Solstice in transit as we speak! (For better and worse, we’ve moved to a library system with much shorter queues.)(That has its pros and cons…beyond the immediate pro.) I loved listening to Burgess Boys. I probably say that about all of Elizabeth Strout–but that is one of my favorite Strouts. And I love your take on reading ‘older’ titles! I was just talking about this with another reader over the weekend. I often wait–a good long time–for hype to die down around hot titles b/c I’m afraid I’ll be too easily influenced. (I don’t necessarily think that’s AS true anymore. But it was at one time–and if you ask me, in that light, waiting is never a bad move!)
I read The Burgess Boys some time ago and recall enjoying it. I liked the audio of Winter Solstice so much I ordered a used paperback, that I recently reread, because I want the book on my shelf. I will have to take a peek at the NPR list. Best of luck on those pesky chores. I gave mine up today for cookie baking.
