Weekending

Weekending

The weekend was full, there was some happy houring, some football watching, and some yard working.

And, yes, there was some knitting. I have about 4 inches to go on Ponchetta…which I think will pair nicely with the Mountain of Laundry that awaits me!

Happy Monday all!

It’s Friday! Ready to get your knit on?

It’s Friday! Ready to get your knit on?

The knitting is inching along nicely. I have about 7 more inches to go on the body of Ponchetta. I finished the third season of Hinterland yesterday, which gave me about 3 inches of quality knitting time! I am not sure how much knitting time there will be this weekend, but there is for sure some Michigan football knitting time on Saturday and that should be good for at least another 3 inches – slowly but surely it is getting done! I am hoping that by this time next week it will be in the FO category!

On my to do list for next week is to round up all the full-sized sheets I have and toss them in the washer before I bring them to my son. Apparently, his sweet pup has been nibbling sheets while Sam is a work. Oops! We also picked up some fleece blankets from IKEA in hopes that will help…better that Bowser chews the $3 blanket than sheets!

The yard is in desperate need of some TLC and since the Yard Fairies have not shown up, that leaves it to us. Hello Grass Cutting, Bush Trimming, and Garden Bed Clean Up – I am so happy to see you! (Okay, maybe not, ha!) Why is it that doing all those things in the spring is greeted with great enthusiasm, but the same is not true in the fall?

How about some links? There are lots of good things this week!

That is all I have for this week! Have a fantastic weekend and I will see you all back here on Monday!!

Three on Thursday, September 14

Three on Thursday, September 14

Think Write Thursday has faded into the sunset of summer. While this makes me the tiniest bit sad (like I am with the passing of summer) I agree with Carole that it was beginning to be too much work and not great participation! That being said, I might have had a moment of panic this week as I contemplated what three things I would blather on about here. You know…no instructions just my own brain! LOL However, I am forging ahead so…Welcome to Three Things Thursday!

Thing 1 (I almost feel like Chris Hayes in an All In-ish kind of way)

Learning something new is hard work. This is most certainly true of my Pilates practice – each day I hope that I will do better than the week before and sometimes I win… and sometimes the learning curve is so steep and I feel like I have miles and miles to go. But, I am not quitting and that is truly a thing of wonder for a person who always did everything I could to NOT exercise!

This is also true of making a simple (okay, maybe not so simple) t-shirt ala Alabama Chanin. Who knew that deconstruction could be so much work!! Now I have all the pieces apart, I am just working on the putting them back together part, but first some simple (no, really – SIMPLE) embellishment. I can see how this can be addictive. And I am already contemplating stenciling… I have more t-shirts so I think this could be a very good thing. I am also pondering RIT dyes so that they are not all white… stay tuned!

Thing 2

Occasionally I find something funny on the internet. I know, who’da thunk it! This week’s chuckle was served up by Victoria Elizabeth Barnes (I especially related to this awesome sentence: “…and listening to Paul tell me what I’ve done wrong recently.”) Yep, I can soooo relate.

Speaking of the internet, sometimes it is also filled with things that make me gasp in wonder. It is especially wonderful that this link was brought to my attention by Vicki. Proceed with caution… there is so much inspiration here! Just wow, amirite?

Thing 3

I have been thinking lots (and I mean lots!!) about where my stitching will take me next year. I absolutely do not want to “be done” on December 31st but I don’t want to do the same thing all over again next year. So, I have come up with what I hope will be an exciting plan; I will stitch the four seasons. I have purchased more linen and each piece will be larger. I will still stitch daily, but each project will last longer. I am excited and energized about this new idea which will start this year on the first day of winter, December 21.

Then, what am I going to do with all my months of stiching from this year? Well, I have gotten some guidance from Margene on how to prep them to stitch them together – I will begin working on this after we get back from visiting my kids in October. Unlike each day of stitching, this will require some planning. But, my thought process has begun – up next some drafting on paper!

There you have my Things for this Thursday… whew, that was way easier than I thought it would be!

Would you like to see more (and possibly more brilliant) Thursday Things? You will find them all here!

Unraveled Wednesday, September 13

Unraveled Wednesday, September 13

I have been plugging away at my Ponchetta, but I have miles to go yet. Sigh. The rows are long but it is good “sit down and watch television” knitting. I have put aside Laura Aylor’s MKAL aside to get it done. Hopefully some focused knitting will have success!

AND… I began stitching on my first Alabama Chanin garment. So far, so good! Although, I have learned that screen printed t-shirts might not be the best thing to start with! But, I am forging ahead. I think the end result will be worth the effort. But, note to self: plain t-shirts might be a better choice! I am trying to get comfortable stitching without a embroidery hoop – it is a challenge!

Then, there is the reading… Oh, my! The reading has been SOOOO good!

I finished 3 books this week! First up, The River at Night by Erica Ferencik. This was an Overdrive suggestion, and while it was a quick read I thought the entire story was a bit of a “Deliverance-wanna-be” and not in a good way. It was a bit farfetched and I thought the characters were shallow and unbelievable. Why did I keep reading? Well, I hoped that it would improve.

Next, I finished Beach Music which is a 5-star book all the way! I did not think it was possible to like a book more than I did South of Broad, but then came Beach Music! This book made me laugh out loud and it made me cry as Jack collected the stories of family members and friends, sharing them so beautifully. Long live Chippy the Dog stories! GRRRRR! GRRRRRR! Pat Conroy’s tender brilliance and agility with the written word is a thing of wonder to read (and listen too!) I strongly recommend this book!

I also finished Viveca Sten’s Closed Circles. While it had a slow start, it picked up nicely and I am enjoying the character development. I gave this book 4-stars. I really felt like I was part of the detective team as they worked through the mystery. In fact, I am starting book 3 “Guiltless” today!

What are you making this week?

A different kind of stitching

A different kind of stitching

I spent most of the day yesterday deconstructing several of Steve’s old t-shirts. I am positive that starting with fabric would be much simpler but, I would be more concerned with making mistakes than I am with these shirts! And, today the task of putting them back together again begins. While my head is bursting with ideas, I am filled with uncertainty.

I just love the rush of a new project.
