September Joy

September Joy

There was much to be joyful about in September from cooler days to the joyful return of summer warmth!

There was lots of walking and lots of knitting (but not at the same time!)

There were extra-long holiday weekends and even just a plain old long weekend, so September weekending was perfect!

The gardens again brought much joy, and while they are looking a bit bedraggled now, they certainly gave lots of wows! And, yes, there are still a few blooms on the Foxglove and the Yarrow.

I found joy in a new haircut and in early morning PIlates.

And, there was lots of joy at Tuesday Knit Nights at the library!

And, after 12+ hours without electricity yesterday, I can truly say that having the power return at 3:30AM is the most joyful thing ever!

Oh, and today I might even find some joy in the simple pleasure of taking a nap!

Fall Friday?

Fall Friday?

Summer has apparently let fall know that she is not done yet. Even though every day the signs in opposition grow exponentially!

Take Boyce Mayview Park where Steve and I walk several times a week; when we were last there, the paths were clear. But now they are littered with fallen leaves and, sadly, the trees are showing evidence of the lack of water we had in the spring. They are dropping their leaves without them developing any fall color. I have seen one or two trees with bits of color, but this almost overnight leaf drop was surprising to both of us.

Our weather has been well into the 80’s all week, and it looks like that kind of warmth will be with us until we leave the next week to visit my kids! While we need rain desperately, I am not complaining about the warm weather at all!

But, I know cool weather will be here sooner or later and, Ponchetta is finished, I need to weave in ends and give her a nice soak and block her, but she is done! Photos coming next week!

I am also almost done adding some necessary length to Nekia. Up next, my 5-day Stillwater sleeves will get a little adjustment in sleeve length.

Now, how about some links?

Recently, several knitters in my Tuesday group have all decided to knit a Wallaby. Yeah, that is one bandwagon I am not getting on! But, then I saw the Sweatshirt Sweater! It is almost like a grown-up, more adult, and more flattering version of the Wallaby!

The Sermon, curious in a very good way. Inspired by Moby-Dick and Ad Reinhardt

The Slouches Collection – especially Slouch Cowl

Stillness Collection, so many great things there!

Knitty, Deep Fall came out this week. The last couple of Knitty’s fell flat for me so I was pleasantly surprised at the number of awesome, “Ooo! I want to knit that” patterns it has!

Tahoma – I love this sweater, but I am not so sure about the yarn choice. But, I am thinking about this in some lopi and liking that thought process lots! (Superwash in a seamless sweater seems like an epic failure, unless you want the incredible, growing sweater…)

Storm Clouds Shawl… great color choice and really lovely lacework!

Finally, for the kids: Aimee’s Rainbow and Lil’ Rosebud

That is all I have this week! Have an amazing weekend and I will see you all back here on Monday!

Three on Thursday, September 21

Three on Thursday, September 21

It’s Thursday, and that can only mean one thing!

Yup, I need to come up with three things to tell you about today!

I could tell you that the process of sleeve lengthening has begun, but it hasn’t. It was usurped by Nekia lengthening – that’s right. I have worn Nekia twice now and I am constantly pulling it down. So, it obviously needs a bit more length.

I could tell you about my insane urge to cast on all the things, but I am showing remarkable restraint!

I could also tell you about being in a dieting holding pattern six weeks and counting…no losses, and no gains either. However, this does nothing to help these last 30-ish pounds I want to lose, but as Steve reminds me daily that muscle weighs more than fat, so hopefully this means I am gaining one and losing the other.

But, rather this week I find myself longing for what was and mourning what might have been.

And, really regretting that we are stuck with Orange Marmalade.

I think there are more than three things here, but it’s a work in progress. Right? What are your Thursday things?

Want to see far more clever things? You will find them all here!

P.S. One final bonus thing: Happy Birthday, Carole! I hope your day is filled with love and joy!

Unraveled Wednesday, September 20

Unraveled Wednesday, September 20

I have about 25 rows to go and Ponchetta will be done. Maybe today? Depending on how I do on my list, that is a real possibility for this afternoon!

Up next for knitting? I have some finishes to queue up. Like some charity knitting, Laura Aylor’s Summer Ripples, and a couple of in-process sweaters! I am going to refrain from casting on anything new until after we get back from our visit to Michigan.

And, the reading!

I managed to finish More Home Cooking: A Writer Returns to the Kitchen by Laurie Colwin. I gave this book 5 stars and felt it was even better than Laurie’s first book! But, really – biscuits, butter, and roast chicken…need I say more?!

I have about 3 more hours of listening in The Brutal Telling. I just love Louise Penny’s writing! Each book is more engaging than the last, which is really appreciated and keeps me anxious for the next book in the series. I should have this done today!

I am also reading Paulette Jiles News of the World. I am about halfway through and I really am enjoying it! However, it will go on hold for a brief bit because a seriously long-awaited library hold came through so I am going to be kind to the next person on the list and read Paul Auster’s 4321 quickly!!

Once I get my list for the day under control, you will find me working on those 25 Ponchetta rows. But, don’t feel too bad for me as I tackle my list – Armand Gamache will be keeping me company!

What are you reading this week?
