September Stitching

September Stitching

I am not sure I am liking the grey linen for this quarter. It is a little darker than I thought it would be, but I am forging ahead with it.

However, in September, I learned some new-to-me techniques of applique. Wool felt is truly a thing of beauty. I had no idea at all, but wow – I really loved working with it!

I also loved using darker color threads as my world changed dramatically this month. The trees are changing, plants are dying, and things are settling in for a new season.

One thing is certain, each day’s stitching was a high point of my day. And, learning new things is always good!

Getaway Friday

Getaway Friday

The final touches of packing are happening today. That’s right, we are heading out to visit my kids.

Woollelujah! has been packed and is ready to go. It contains a little bit of this and that – some pay attention knitting and some mindless knitting. My goal, one finished object before the trip is over and I think that is entirely doable!

And, there were some really excellent links this week!

Op Art Shawl is knit with an interesting yarn (and it is a free download!)

Baskerville Dawn to Dusk II is a collection of patterns knit up from another interesting yarn. I especially like Bristol Ivy’s Bovey

Issue 3 of Laine Magazine has some incredible knits in it. I might be planning a stop here to get a copy!

Ghostwood Mittens gives a lovely idea. Carry a strand of mohair/silk with your yarn to create luxury mittens (and super warm!)

Kindred Knits… so much cute here! Especially the cardigans!

Wearable Cardigan – entirely  wearable but with shorter sleeves.

See you back here on Monday! And have a great weekend everyone!

Three on Thursday, September 28

Three on Thursday, September 28

This week, just 3 things. Really. No more, no less.

Thing 1:

While walking last week I found these two stunning feathers. I wondered what bird they might have come from; my initial thoughts were either a hawk or an owl. Well, I was wrong on both counts. They are wild turkey feathers (thank you Google!!) It’s kind of nice knowing that the wild turkeys like our walking path. I feel like we are in good company!

Thing 2:

We got a bushel of apples from our local farm market. Really lovely apples, but a bushel. Luckily, I found this recipe thanks to Anni! Now, my riff on this will not include a crock pot, but I think it will still work even without that item! And, apple butter… oh yeah!

Thing 3:

I have been seeing some recipes for Damson Gin on Pinterest and this one looks almost too easy. I have never made Sloe Gin, but I believe the homemade version will be superior to the stuff you find at the Wine and Spirits Store. I love that you use the soaked Damsons in a Crumble. Yeah. My thoughts exactly. Sometimes Pinterest can be the worst time suck on earth, but this was definitely not one of those times!

There you have it, THREE things on Thursday! Now, if you want to read about more things, head on over to Carole’s!

Unraveled Wednesday, September 27

I am really happy with how Ponchetta turned out! I am not sure the weather will cooperate to let me wear it on our trip, but I am taking it along!

And, inches have been added and Nekia has been re-blocked. I am much happier with this length!

As for the currently knitting – I am working today on travel knitting. I am planning to only take in process projects with the idea that I will finish them. I am not sure this is such a great idea, and just in case I am taking a skein of sock yarn and sock needles. When in doubt, knit socks! Right?

As for the reading this week:

I finished The Brutal Telling and it was EXCELLENT! I gave it 5 stars and I am on the list at the library for Bury Your Dead, hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait!

I am well into Paul Auster’s 4321. Oh.My.Gosh. I am not sure how to even describe this novel but I am loving it and it is keeping me up late reading every night.

What about you? What are you making (or unmaking) this week!

September Joy

September Joy

There was much to be joyful about in September from cooler days to the joyful return of summer warmth!

There was lots of walking and lots of knitting (but not at the same time!)

There were extra-long holiday weekends and even just a plain old long weekend, so September weekending was perfect!

The gardens again brought much joy, and while they are looking a bit bedraggled now, they certainly gave lots of wows! And, yes, there are still a few blooms on the Foxglove and the Yarrow.

I found joy in a new haircut and in early morning PIlates.

And, there was lots of joy at Tuesday Knit Nights at the library!

And, after 12+ hours without electricity yesterday, I can truly say that having the power return at 3:30AM is the most joyful thing ever!

Oh, and today I might even find some joy in the simple pleasure of taking a nap!
