Fact of life is no matter if your weekend is jam-packed full of things to do or leisurely and at your own pace – Monday arrives on time. Without fail. Every.single.week.
It was a weekend of leisurely and at our own pace though – which was a good follow up to last weekend’s busy-ness.
There was some dining in and dining out – and we celebrated Steve’s birthday. There were also some reality checks like laundry and checking things off the to-do list. But, it was balanced.
This week is full – I have some follow up things to do from last week and today begins Just Five Things with Michelle GD! Today’s lists are all about gratitude and I hope to fill my lists with unexpected things as my day progresses.
This weekend also brought the reality that my diet journey will now be a solo gig going forward. Honestly, I am very scared of this. Really. I have yet to figure out how I am going to make that work and I still have a very long way to go, but I welcome any and all suggestions.
This weekend there was absolutely no knitting either. That might be the longest stretch that I have gone without picking up a project since before I started knitting! Hopefully today will bring some time to remedy that most distressing situation!
That is all I have for this busy Monday morning! How is your Monday unfolding?
The weekend’s list of accomplishments was short – laundry being the sole item.
Which leaves me catching up on Monday.
A bit of vitamin C and coffee paired with some nourishing meditations will hopefully get me ready to move those things left undone from the weekend onto my Monday list.
It will be a full week – I hope your weekend was just what you needed to tackle your week!
Happy Monday, everyone!
It was a bitterly cold weekend here in the ‘Burgh and my new slippers came in very handy during the weekend of couch residency with knitting in hand.
I started swatching and I am not certain if I got gauge yet (swatch drying is in process) but I really love the yarn. It is very nice and I think it will be an excellent choice for a sweater – and it is not overly processed and there is a faint sheepy aroma and a slight feel of lanolin which is not at all unpleasant in the knitting process. I am expecting the yarn to bloom considerably in washing so it will be interesting to see how much gauge changes pre-wash and post-washing.
I also got back to sleeves on Rock Island – I got a good bit of it done watching a few episodes of season two of The Man in the High Castle. I was having a bit of a panic about not having enough yarn to finish the sweater, but those fears are subsiding a bit for the moment. I have about 4 inches to go on sleeve one and I think I will easily get sleeve two done with leftovers!
I am finding it a challenge to get back on track with my diet – it seems that a couple of weeks of sugar intake has woken my sweet tooth. I am going to try to ignore the sweet cravings this morning, which should make Monday even more amazing than it usually is!
That is all I have for today – if you are blanketed in snow and bitterly cold weather – stay warm and I hope your Monday is gentle! Mine should be – at least I am appropriately attired for it!
How was your weekend?
After a warp-speed weekend, Monday dawns dull and grey with rain showers and milder temperatures. It is hard to feel excited about the week when it starts off like this! We did have a dusting of snow when I woke and Saturday – it looked so beautiful outside. However, the rain has washed every bit of snow away. Boo!
However, the weekend was nice – happy hour on Friday was particularly wonderful. Good eats, good companionship, and great cocktails. Ones that were so good you needed a second to confirm that you loved it so much! I am sharing the recipe with you all – it was that good.
I really love classic cocktails, and a Sidecar with Remy Martin V.S.O.P. is one of my favorites this time of the year. But, I like to tweak things – improve them a bit, and especially take advantage of what I have on hand. Oranges are so lovely at the market right now – sweet, juicy and packed full of goodness add to that – my thyme is still growing like mad, despite the cold frosty days we have had. So how could I improve on the classic Sidecar with a bit of thyme and the fresh oranges. Here is my recipe:
- 5 ounces Remy Martin VSOP
- 1 ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec (I used Triple Sec, which is what I had on hand)
- 1 ounce Thyme simple syrup*
- The juice from 1.5 oranges **
- The juice from half a lemon **
- 2-4 drops of Orange Bitters
- Sprig of Thyme for garnish
- Orange zest for garnish
Combine all liquid ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake briskly. Pour into chilled martini or coupe glasses and garnish with an orange zest and a thyme sprig. Enjoy!
*To make the thyme simple syrup – combine equal parts water and sugar and heat on stove top until sugar has melted completely. Remove from heat and add 8-10 sprigs of fresh thyme. Cover and let steep 10 minutes. Remove thyme and cool to room temperature and then refrigerate. Syrup will keep in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
** I juiced 3 oranges and 1 lemon and made 4 cocktails
I completed the final bits of Christmas decorating and I did some reading and a wee bit of knitting. I finally finished Burial Rites and was not impressed – it was a story with so many questions and many of them unanswered. I started reading The Mysteries of Pittsburgh and so far, so good!
On the schedule for this abbreviated week (Steve is taking his last vacation day on Friday!!) is to finish the last bit of Christmas shopping and get wrapped and in the mail.
How was your weekend?
I, like these determined little leaves, am holding on to November for dear life!
December is looming large and I am not ready for all the Christmas things quite yet!
Add to that the feeling that this year has just gone by far too quickly and I am very happy to revel in the last few days of November.
The weekend was quiet, but very good. There was lots of eating, some knitting, some movie watching with Steve, and a bit of heartbreaking football (this was not the quiet portion of the weekend by any means!) and even a walk or two for good measure.
Now, I am off to get outdoors and take a nice long, head-clearing walk! How was your weekend?
