This weekend was truly the stuff of dreams. Steve had a work function, so he was gone until Sunday, which meant I did what I wanted all weekend long!
There was so much reading! I am three books away from a second cover all…. Yes, you read that correctly! I am focused and can almost taste success even if it might come down to the wire next Monday so stay tuned!
I made a Beach Hair Don’t Care headband. I knit it at a slightly tighter than recommended gauge and now I am hoping that it stretches out as I think it will with a bit of blocking. But… In case it doesn’t, a second has been started at the recommended gauge! Ha!
I finished the lace work of Tegna, which means that it is now the perfect knit… just round, and round, and round… for 15 or so inches! Haha!
I also pulled out Strokkur and made some good progress on a sleeve!
All this weekend productivity has energized my Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! Happy Monday!
My list today includes more Cherry Tomato Jam, some Peach Jam, and a Plum tart.
Also, that Basil infused cocktail from Friday got very high marks! I based it on this recipe. It was bright and refreshing. Changes I made: I used regular vodka (not citrus flavored) and no tonic water. Served with a twist, it was the perfect start to the weekend!
Oh, and this will be done today! Well, at least the knitting will be done! Up next, steeks and a zipper!
Except, I am not at all wishing it was Sunday again! Yes, it’s that time of the year when it seems the weekend is almost all work! Take this weekend for example:
After picking 5 lbs. of cherry tomatoes over 2 days, I knew Tomato Jam time had arrived. And, yes, that meant a good chunk of Sunday was spent in the kitchen cooking… but I do have some jam to show for it!
I also made another plum crostata – this time with more tart plums. It was delicious, but we thought the earlier plums were better. But, alas… they are done for the year.
Sunday afternoon we had these crazy pop-up storms complete with several large cracks of thunder that sounded ominously close! And, close it was! Our neighbor’s tree was struck by lightning and we had a bit of a fire show until the fire department arrived to take control of the situation. Nothing says neighborhood bonding like something on fire, amirite? Yes, we all stood in the rain watching the firemen do what they do best – spray water on things. I wonder if they do gardens?
There was lots of laundry because why not right?
We watched Ready Player One, which caused me to change my review of the book. All in all, even though the effects were incredible, I was very disappointed in the movie. Special effects do not trump reading…ever. Pro-tip: read the book and skip the movie!
I also finished the mystery shawl! OH.MY.GOSH!! It still needs a good soak and the tiniest bit of blocking but stay tuned for the big reveal later this week!
I have a bad case of “I want to cast on all the things” but I am trying hard to ignore it. I pulled out this and knit sleeve two while watching Ready Player One and I made good progress (read, I have said sleeve done!) It is going to stay out until I have it finished. This should tell you that I am losing steam with my Vodka Lemonade, but I only have about 14 rows to the sleeve divide when I know things go faster. My focus word for the week is persevere! Ha!

Today is the last Monday of July. Yes, that’s right…the very last one.
A very big part of me is wondering how July flew by so very quickly and the sadness that there is more summer behind me than there is before me is encroaching on my soul.
Perhaps it is because I just finished reading The Long Winter for the umpteenth time that I am feeling today very much as Pa did at the opening of the book – I need to “make hay while the sun shines.” I feel like there is so much to get done and the time to complete it is quickly waning.
So, today there is no rest for me as my list is long and I have so much to get done before the day is over.

As you can see, I did not get my Beekeeper Cardigan finished and there just might be some more frogging in order. As Mary said in an email to me bright and early this morning: “Purling sleeves in the round is not fun.”
No. No, it is not! Flat knit sleeves may be in the future of this cardigan – I will do a trial run on the right sleeve later this week.
However, the weekend was just glorious. Quiet. Peaceful. Occasionally, being alone is the best thing for the soul. And, Sherman is the most accommodating of companions – quiet most of the time and usually happy to just sleep wherever I am.
There was a bit of drama early Sunday morning when the Cardinal family had a crisis with one of their babies after we had some unbelievably torrential rains. As you can hear, Sherman was most upset also but, it ended well, and the babies were all back to their usual routine of loud demands for their poor parents to feed them… NOW!
Today, though, is all about getting a couple of Geranium’s started for Genevieve!
