TGI-Fotograph Friday | 3.22.19

This has been a very mixed bag week, but it is finally Friday, so I am setting the week aside and making room for the weekend!

Tracking my brackets!

This might be my best start of any bracket I have done in years! And, believe me there have been years that my bracket was blown on Day One, but this year I only missed two picks on the first day! And, there were some crazy good games yesterday!! You would think with all this basketball, I’d have some knitting to show for it… think again, lol.

Good plans, bad timing??

So, my plans for knitting yesterday somehow went by the wayside. There was a trip to Costco and then during dinner a conversation started about possibly moving the bedroom furniture around… which then morphed into moving the bedroom furniture around after dinner. Yes, we have completely and totally lost our minds. We managed to get things moved enough to go to bed – but it was not pretty. You know what I am doing today… more bedroom furniture moving!!

Inspired to Sew…

A few Bunny Bags to fill with treats for the kids and Genevieve! These were courtesy of the Bernina We All Sew Newsletter yesterday – and so timely. I would love to join Kym with her latest knitting obsession, but I think the sewing of bunnies might be easier (and quicker) than knitting an army of bunnies!

I also stumbled upon a new-to-me magazine yesterday which has FREE PATTERNS available on their website!

Fotograph Friday!

And, finally – I am joining kmkat again this week with a photograph from one year ago! Yes – we had a doozy of a snow storm and damned if we don’t have snow and gale-freaking-force winds in the forecast today. Spring!! I am looking at you! I am a wee bit concerned about my lilacs!!

That’s all I have for this week! Have a great weekend everyone!

TGIF | 3.15.19

TGIF | 3.15.19

Welcome to the “Beware the ides of March” edition of TGIF!

It has been a week and a half (or at least it certainly feels that way to me!) I guess a week with meetings, vet appointments, and an inordinate amount of phone calls will do that for you! But it is finally Friday and even though we had a huge slice of spring yesterday – we have that four-letter word in the forecast for this weekend. I am desperately hoping the weather persons are all wrong!

But, enough with the weather and way-to-long weeks… lets get this weekend started already!

Terrific, tremendous, and terribly wonderful!!

I have the front of Deschain completed! I love how it looks and I will get the back cast on this morning. I did one extra repeat of the pattern and I am very happy with the length. The only fiddly part of the back will be the short rows. I do have one question for you, Gentle Readers, what would you use to seam this up?

Game on –

The Madness begins on Sunday and I am really excited for this year’s tournaments. I will be filling out my brackets on Monday and spending some quality television time over the next couple of weeks! This also means quality knitting time!! The “First Four” games start on the 19th and the full tournament tips off on Thursday.

Ireland Forever (or Éirinn go Brách) –

That’s right, Sunday is also St. Paddy’s Day and my corned beef is all set to go! I am trying Andrew Zimmern’s recipe this year and, honestly?? My mouth is watering thinking about it! Steve has also been sending me links of things to make with the leftovers. Look for these Irish Nachos or these Brisket Nachos to occur sometime next week! We have plenty of Guinness on hand which will help me forget the predicted cold weather.

Fotography Friday –

Yes, I am joining kmkatt for her Friday Fun. The photo I have chosen is courtesy of timehop. I cannot believe that 10 years have passed since this photo was taken because in my mind it really seems like it was yesterday. It was a rare glorious March day which made it perfect to visit Lake Michigan! It was equally perfect and so amazing to meet the woman in the photo again. This woman holds a very special place in my heart and seeing her all grown up was truly a lovely gift.

That is all I have for this week! Have a great weekend and I will see you all back here on Monday!

Looking back: February

Looking back: February

February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March. ~J.R. Stockton

It has been a long time since I have done any monthly reviews here, but I am  trying a  new format to go with my “new to me” way to save something special each day. This format is helping me remember to take a picture and record a few seconds to preserve the moments of the day.

Looking back at February, I am struck by two things: how much snow we got and how much sunshine there was!

And when you think about life – it is that finite balance that we might not even be aware of that makes things more tolerable.

And, yes – this month seemed so much more manageable than January, which seemed to drag on forever! February, was indeed just long enough!

How about you? How was your February?

You Make It Feel Like Christmas

You Make It Feel Like Christmas

It has been a rough couple weeks at Casa del KatKnits, Gentle Reader… I passed my 5th anniversary of moving to Pittsburgh on the 19th and shortly after that a case of Homesick for Holland hit…hard. And, honestly – I have shed a few tears by myself and even allowed myself to have a bit of a one-person pity party. This is not a good look, trust me, and I have been working on getting myself out of this funk. I don’t do melancholy well… at all, but every thought seemed to be focused back to all the things I think I am missing.

Thanks to Kym, I did have something else to try to focus on for some of this week! When I wasn’t drowning in self-pity I thought about what I want this Christmas to be. Honestly, Merry and Bright just sort of rang hollow and, while I love Bing’s White Christmas – it just is not what I needed to focus on.

But, then last night… out of the blue Steve sent me a link…

As usual, he has the perfect reminder for me… he does make it feel like Christmas, and so that is going to be my focus for the season. The blues might not be entirely gone, but I can see my silver lining shining through…and that is a very good thing indeed.

That is all I have for this week. Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you all back here on Monday!

Countdown Friday’s

Countdown Friday’s

Why is it that approaching vacation time equals diminishing brain function? Or am I the only person experiencing this phenomenon? And, it seems all things are conspiring to remind me that vacation is coming! Airbnb sent a reminder this morning… just in case I was not already thinking about it!

But, there are some random thoughts rattling around my brain that I am just going to dump out here to close out the week!

First up, Kym posted about the abundance of fungi that are flourishing thanks to the recent rains. My back yard has become one such area… we have a fungi explosion here too, as you can see in my photo. I am not sure what kind of mushrooms these are, but they sure are interesting – they “open” like an umbrella!

Next, did you see that The Man Booker Shortlist is out? I am significantly disappointed that Warlight did not move from the longlist to the shortlist… boo!

One of the blogs that I really love is Tom of Holland – he never disappoints and almost always wows and there are lots of wows in this post. I simply love the idea of taking something that is unwearable and turning it into a true work of art.

Next week Friday, Issue 6 of Laine Magazine will be out. But!!! You can start planning your knits today as the images are up on Ravelry this morning! There are a number of things that I am entirely smitten with!

I have been most disappointed recently with Knitty, but the Astronomer’s Beret is really quite wonderful – and it combines knitting and embroidery in a very unique way!

Sally Melville’s All Ages Vest is fun… and easy install zippers FTW!

My friend, Sarah Jordan released a new hat pattern this week: Emblematic. I love that it began as a doodle!

Hats were definitely the winners this week and Berrit has a discount through Sunday!

And, that is all I have for this week! Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you back here on Monday!
