After a Herculean Effort, President Obama saw the passage of the Comprehensive Health Care Reform bill by Congress late last night.
Reforms that will see coverage expand for millions of Americans who currently are uninsured or under-insured, Republican and Democrat alike! Even though Republicans tried hard to rally against it and they held fast to that stance to the end because, voting sadly held to the party lines, even though they also will benefit equally by passing of this bill.
Reform that just the thought of caused Rush Limbaugh to announce that if this bill passed, he might have to move to another country, one with universal health care, I might add.
It does not seem possible that an entire year has already passed since President Obama took the reins of an Out of Control America.
And, so you might ask… are we better today than we were just one short year ago.
The answer for me is yes… and no.
And even though Right Wing Pundits want to throw stones at the current administration for the problems that still exist today, hoping against hope that we will all believe that we have just recently arrived at this disaster! They appear ostrich-like in their view of the out of control and downward spiraling economy as Bush led the charge, not even attempting to halt it in its early and rapidly growing stages. Yes, according to them, the problems we have as a nation today are somehow all Mr. Obama’s fault. However, as President Obama so aptly pointed out last night, he did indeed inherit a colossal disaster from the previous administration.
I was never more appalled nor ashamed of the comments made by the leader of the amoral majority, Pat Robertson regarding the disaster that has befallen Haiti.
Yes, you read that right, amoral.
However, today my President put Mr. Robertson in his place and did so far better than I ever could with these words of wisdom that he shared today, the entirety of his speech can be found here…
“To the people of Haiti, we say clearly, and with conviction, you will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten. In this, your hour of greatest need, America stands with you. The world stands with you. We know that you are a strong and resilient people. You have endured a history of slavery and struggle, of natural disaster and recovery. And through it all, your spirit has been unbroken and your faith has been unwavering. So today, you must know that help is arriving — much, much more help is on the way.”
Bravo, Mr. President, well said!
