I am joining Carole for Three on Thursday today! And this week, my brain has been full of dreams… garden dreams!! Which have been aptly inspired by the Baker Seed Catalog!

Thing One:

Even though they have an incredibly short bloom time, I have a crazy love for poppies. And, these poppies are filling my dreams!

Thing Two:

In the “Neighbor Garden Wars” my neighbor has been killing it with the array of sunflowers that he plants, however, I think these might help me win BIG this summer!

Thing Three:

Although, it is usually All Tomatoes in our the garden – I am enamored of this celery and this spinach so I am contemplating how to maximize our minimal space to include these!

What is filling your thoughts?

Joining up with Carole today to share a few things about me!

Thing One:

I have for quite some time in my life experienced long bouts of insomnia. And by long, I mean weeks at a time until exhaustion overtakes the insomnia and I get a couple of nights of sleep. I am in one of those bouts and I have been really trying to examine ways to break this cycle. This week I have been trying some new things – well, old things at new times. I have been a prayerful meditator for quite some time, but I have been trying some breathing meditations at the end of the day to try to calm my mind and body. While I think it is too soon to tell if this is helping in the few days, I have been doing it, at least I am less stressed about sleeping when I lay down. Last night I also made myself a nice tea latte to sip before bed – hot herbal tea, a bit of honey, and steamed frothy milk were a nice treat. I am not sure the tea helped me sleep, but it felt good to “take care of me”.

Thing Two:

Why is your hair entirely manageable (and even fairly attractive) one week and the next it is a freaking disaster? (also, why does one side have some nice waves but the other entirely straight… really – I.kid.you.not.) Really… is this a thing for everyone? I am in the “freaking disaster” stage and I don’t have a hair appointment until next month (which I realize is not that far away, but…freaking disaster, people… I am telling you… FREAKING DISASTER!!) All this disaster hair has me pondering “new do’s” which means I am trolling the Hair Style Pinterest pages like a crazy person. While I simply adore Mary’s bravado with her darling Audrey Hepburn do… I must be entirely honest with myself – I only like to visit the salon every 7-8 weeks and a short cut requires much more maintenance than I am willing to do. But I am thinking that maybe a good “trim” of 3-4 inches will help this issue? Yeah… thinking is always a good thing when it comes to hair – those rash hair cuts have always resulted in ‘what the hell did I do that for’?!?

Thing Three:

I have been thinking long and hard about my wardrobe – specifically what I wear and what I don’t wear. It turns out that my “don’t wear” things are taking up a LARGE VOLUME OF PRIME CLOSET REAL ESTATE. So… I think I see a little Kon-Mari-Be-More-With-Less action coming to a closet near me!

There you have it… three things for today!

I am joining with Carole today and my things all surround something that sort of blew up over social media this week thanks to a very poorly conceived blog post and the crucial things we all need to learn from this debacle:

Thing One:

An apology for offending people is not an apology. The apology needed to be for the behavior, thoughts, ignorance, and yes… the extremely poorly worded blog post.

Thing Two:

Making excuses for your behavior does nothing but compound the problem.

Thing Three:

Finally, it requires each of us to spend time realizing that we don’t know, what we don’t know – and in that realization – we need to make the commitment to learn more. Be more aware. Acknowledge that we have said – say – did – do things every single day that compound this problem. And, yes… even that we are silent when we should not be.

This opened the door to a very real problem that exists in the Fiber Community, et al – it is structured for white success. We all need to work on making it more inclusive – this is not something we can think well “someone else will do that.” It is something that requires work from each of us collectively – every day!

I am not linking to the blog post, but you can find it on the Fringe Association blog but there is a very interesting conversation happening on IG which you can see here and here and here.

Today is all about my intentions for 2019 – intentions that I think will work in concert with my word of the year – focused intentions sound much easier to keep however, deciding what things will be on my list this year has not been easy at all!

Intention One:

Make with more of a focus. This will mean not jumping on every “new” thing that comes along – which might just be the hardest part of all! But my making has been most haphazard in years past – some with great success and some with epic failure! So, this year, my making will have a focus on things that were on my radar – things that the desire to make has not diminished but has grown! I also want to do more gift and charity knitting this year. And, I am off to a good start on the gift knitting! I have had this mini-set for a very long time and have had absolutely no idea what to do with it, and then I saw Sarah Jordan’s Mini-Maximization and knew I had found the perfect project for it! I made some good progress yesterday which is a good thing since this will be a 30th birthday gift for my daughter next month!

Also, this year, I want to continue to do more sewing! Look for a couple of new cold weather things coming soon and I have plans to make a couple of these t-shirts with my serger!

Intention Two:

Move! This quote by Thomas Jefferson is in my planner – “Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.” It is a very good reminder to me that I need to move my body! I have even added a “check-in” of sorts to my planner. I am hoping this accountability will help me get back to moving – and make it a permanent habit!

Intention Three:

Be a more positive person every.single.day. It is a frustrating world and I cannot change everything, but I can change me by being more positive in all things. I need to focus more on the things I can have an impact on and less on the things I cannot change.

So, there you have my intentions for 2019! My plan is for success and actually make them a part of my everyday life – reminding myself daily of them so that they become a part of me. I think these tie in well with my word for the year.

A Thursday that feels more like a Tuesday seems appropriate to have a post of random things!

Thing One:

Next week, Juliann starts us all with One Word – a truly wonderful way to spend the year! I did not do this in 2018, and I really missed it so, I will be participating in 2019. If you are thinking about your word and need some inspiration, the internet has it! You could try this, or this, or this!

Thing Two:

Bitty Baby loves her snowsuit! It’s amazing what you can do, even if you are not sure of how it will work out! And, there is a very good lesson in there for me!

Thing Three:

Today begins my 58th journey around the sun! And – seeing the sun this morning is a most excellent start to this journey! I am spending today with lots of good things: some reading, some knitting, and some Chinese for lunch!

It seems impossible that tomorrow is Friday already but I will be back with my final TGIF post for 2018. Happy Thursday everyone!
