I am taking part in sprite writes virtual Advent tour and today I am sharing Anticipation.
My favorite part of Christmas is the anticipation that Advent brings.
I love the twinkling lights, the decorations, the candles, and the music. They all add to the anticipation of the season – that feeling of getting ready for something special.
It was not always this way – I grew up in a house where we did not put up a tree until Christmas Eve – and most years we took it down on the day after Christmas.
Perhaps because of that, the minute I had my own place – Christmas anticipation started early! Most years, decorating began the day after Thanksgiving – and I kept the decorations up until Twelfth Night. And, trees – I put up more than one. There was a “fancy” living room tree, a Santa Tree in the den, Kitchen Tree, and small trees in the bedrooms. But the best tree was the “kids tree” that they could decorate or undecorate as often as they wanted!
Christmas now is a more relaxed affair – there are not trees everywhere but, the anticipation of getting ready for something special is the part of Christmas that I hope to never let go.
What a great post, Kat! I, too, love that feeling of looking forward to the season. (And I think the idea of a kids’ tree is awesome!)
What a terrific description of anticipation! I love how fully you embrace getting ready for something special with all those trees, and still keep the feeling.
I think people miss a lot when they don’t celebrate ChristmasTIME. We always did, and the anticipation is part of the fun.
We also keep our tree up until January 6 – I’m glad someone else does!
Anticipation is the best part! Merry Christmas to you and yours
I love the anticipation, too. I’ve never had more than one tree, our rooms are too small for that, but I think it sounds lovely.
I never had more than one tree until the Christmas of Y2K, when my sister gave me hand-quilted stars that she’d made (24,25,30? I don’t remember)(will have to count again!) and I found a separate little wire tree that I put them on — and that tree goes in the kitchen.
I am too shocked that it’s December to be able to enjoy much anticipation, sadly. I need to get my holiday butt in gear!
No matter how you celebrate Christmas it should be a season of joy! You are recreating my childhood!
I love decorating and preparing for Christmas. It’s such a special time of year!
Yes – I’m so many years older now but the anticipation is still my favorite part! (I trust that bodes well for years to come 😉
anticipation is so much better than the actual day of Christmas. I find the wrapping the decorating the baking and waiting for my kids to arrive the best feeling ever.
In my childhood, we always got/put the tree up on Christmas Eve Day…that’s what people did way back then…and I kinda like the tradition…and I also like sitting and looking at lit trees before, during and after…we have a neighbor who leaves his tree up year ’round and has for years…oh well; wonder what the anticipation is for him….
Cheers~
