It is all sock knitting here. Mystery Socks – one done, one to be finished.
Handspun Montadale Plain Vanilla Socks – in process
Birthday Helical Stripe Socks – in process
At least sock knitting is portable!
Actual reading has stalled, but audio books have been getting a good work out. I finished Orwell’s 1984 yesterday. I gave it 5 stars – I really loved this book. How spooky or perhaps eerie in how relevant it is to what is currently going on is crazy. If you have not read it – you should. It is brilliant writing.
I began listening to Orwell’s Animal Farm – this is a “re-read” for me, however, I read this book over 35 years ago, and felt a refresher was in order. The same company published this audiobook, and I am thrilled because the narration is stellar.
Oh, and I started reading The Zookeeper’s Wife last night. It is too soon to have any thoughts on the book as of yet.
As always, joining with Ginny’s Yarn Along – what are you reading this week?
Lovely socks! And the Helical Stripe ones – brilliant. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of The Zookeeper’s Wife – it’s been on my shelf (unread) for a number of years.
So many pretty socks! I finished the Zookeepers Wife last week. It was pretty good. I’m anxious to see the movie when it comes out.
This post makes me want to come back to my first sock WIP – I have to finish it already!! As always, your photos are inspiring! Orwell’s Animal Farm is on my must-read list, I fell absolutely in love with his “1984” back in the university…
I read The Zookepers Wife a number of years ago and enjoyed it. As I am reading the book of Isaiah this Lent, I am drawn to reflect on life right now. So many parallels. Hope you are feeling better soon. Winter had colds are the worst.
Loving all your beautiful socks! I can’t quite understand the helical stripes thing (isn’t all knitting in the round helical?) but I think I might get it if I quit reading MDK and just tried it. I just got 1984 on Overdrive last night and it is scary indeed. Thanks for the recommendation!
I’m currently re-reading 1984. I was forced to read it in high school & didn’t really ‘get’ it. But now… now it’s pretty terrifying how close the story is to our current reality.
Your socks are gorgeous, btw.
Love all the socks!
I am still reading an Outlander book, but I’ve only got about 300 pages to go. I am hoping to finish it before we go away for a week at the end of March. I’m also reading The Girl with All the Gifts via Kindle on the evenings I put my daughter to bed (she likes someone to sit with her until she falls asleep). It’s not at all what I expected, but I’m more than halfway through so feel an obligation to finish.
I read the Zookeepers Wife many years ago and remember how much I liked it. I need to get in the Helical Stripe mode!
Those are some great looking socks, especially the handspun ones. I’m reading All the Bright Places (entertaining YA) and listening to Crossing to Safety (brilliant adult fiction).
that is quite the sock collection in progress! It’s where you need to be as a knitter right? Lovely yarns 🙂
I read 1984 & Animal Farm in high school, over 45 years ago! I remember that I found them to be very disturbing and frightening; it seems that we haven’t really come that far from those cold war days.
ALL of those socks are great! I think I’ll queue up 1984 for my next listen when I finish The Nix (which is really, really long). (And I’m still not sure about all the 5 star ratings but I’ve a ways to go.) I’m also listening to Inspector Gamache #2.
look at you go on those socks!!!!! all great looking, too!!!
Love all the socks…gotta spare? ;-)). Up for a classic re-read this month…maybe I’ll dip into 1984…finishing Underground Railroad in the next day or so…’bout time! Not much to share on the knitting front…
Cheers~
Not much knitting here . . . but plenty of reading. Love your socks!
Your mystery socks are going to be awesome – I’ve been stalking the FO thread on Ravelry and thinking “yep, Kat’s are cooler” 🙂 but your helix socks…oh my…those might get me to try size one dpn’s again… also, I started Patrick Melrose. Maybe we should start a podcast about that story!
I loved The Zookeeper’s Wife. I think you will too. It’s also going to be made into a movie but I don’t know whether I want to see it after having read it.
What does anyone else think about watching movies after reading the books?
Those are lovely socks… I especially love the handspun!
