This week’s Think Write Thursday topic is to write a post that begins with the words, “Remember the time . . . “
Memories are curious things. The strangest things can trigger them. I showed you those hankies I found, the memory it triggered was doing this as a child. I could not remember exactly how to do it though, so I am thankful for YouTube which has videos on all things, even babies in a cradle!
But, in thinking about this post, there were lots of Remember the time moments…
Here are some of my Remember the times:
- Remember when spring actually was spring and there were not numerous days when it got to 90 out? We are slated to be near 90 today. In April. This worries me greatly.
- Remember when we had a president we could be proud of? Yeah, me too and most days it seems like a lifetime ago.
- Remember when I had a “real job” and actually had to leave the house to go to work? Some days I really miss having a “real job” with interaction with co-workers, regular hours, etc. Thankfully, these are fleeting moments – but they do happen, sometimes frequently – like this month. Yeah, even staying home to work has its ups and downs.
- Remember when gas used to be 25 cents a gallon? I do…especially when filling up the car now costs $55. Ouch.
- Remember when spending the night at Nana’s house was the best thing ever, staying up late to watch Charlie Chan in black and white, eating “Denver Omelets”, playing solitaire with Grandpa, and sleeping under this quilt.
Those are some of my Remember the times moments, what are yours?
If you would like to see what others remembered, you will find them here. If you want to join Carole and I for Think Write Thursday’s, you can sign up here.
The older I get, the more “remember whens” I have!
XO
Sweet memories! I do remember gas at $0.25. Hard to believe these days.
Oh yes, I remember!
Oh, how lovely. I’ll have to share that hankie trick with Jun. (And I was just thinking yesterday that we need a sleep-over!) What a beautiful quilt.
We are slated for SNOW this afternoon. So gross.
Sometimes I wish I had a job that didn’t require me to leave the house! Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to see other people and to get the exercise (I walk in to the office), but there are days I’d really rather be stretched out in my sweats.
I’ll admit that I don’t remember gas being that cheap, but I do remember the summer before I started college that it cost me less than $20 to fill my gas tank — and in those days I was driving a big Volvo station wagon, so it was a big tank!
I remember the time that Kat reminded me of my grandmother making a handkerchief doll to keep me quiet in church (after I had eaten all the Lifesavers in her purse). Thanks for the memory! (And I am equally concerned about 85-90 degrees in April.)
Wow – the hanky with the babies in the cradle was something I have not thought about for years! I will have to do this with my granddaughters. Thanks for the memories.
This is a great take on this topic although I wish you didn’t have to include the one about remembering when we had a president we could be proud of. I loved sleeping over at my grandparents house, too!
On the gas memory, the flip side…remember when gas was over $4.00 a gallon?
I loved sleeping at my grandmother’s house and my great aunt was the bonus there. And my gas memory is .55!
I remember when my grandmother taught me to make the babes in a blanket with a handkerchief! I also remember when gas was .19 but also my paycheck was $1.85.
I hope your work load eases up. I remember when gas was super cheap too, that was incredible!!
I relived a lot of remember when moments with my aunt and cousin this week … one favorite of ours was walking to the drugstore (my great aunt and uncle owned it) for fresh lemonade or a milkshake.
Apparently I am older than you, or lived where there were cheap gas stations, because I remember when gas was 19ยข a gallon. (Yeah, my husband doesn’t believe me when I tell him that.)
