Summer has abruptly arrived here in the Pittsburgh area. Temps climbed into the 80’s yesterday and are slated to climb into the 90’s today. This has created a sense of urgency for the garden, but I won’t be transplanting young plants in that heat. They can wait shaded on the porch until later in the week when the temperatures are more moderate.
On the reading front, I finished The Lake and I loved it! Look for a full review next week! I am back to The Girl in Green by Derek Miller and I am enjoying it. I also have printed out my Summer Book Bingo Card. If you want to join in, you can get all the details here from Mary.
I was so excited to learn that my local Knit Night group is no longer meeting at the world’s worst knitting shop! The shop owner for unknown reasons has cancelled knit night at the shop so they are now meeting at my favorite library on Tuesday nights. Last night was my first night back at the new location. I am still working away on the Air Soft Shawl but I am at the point of repeating rows and staggered increases – it is not a “mindless knit” right now. So, knitting it seemed like an exercise in futility (or frogging…) so I knit on the KAL since my kit arrived on Monday. I was unsure how I’d like knitting with such big needles (you cast on with a US17 and then knit with a US15 for a good bit) but it seems okay, if albeit a bit awkward managing those needles until the fabric grows a bit. However, I love the texture of the knitting and I learned a new stitch K1-rb (Knit 1, row below) This stitch creates an elongated stitch and has a lovely texture. I have a bit more to go until I switch to a smaller needle.
That is all I have for this Wednesday. What are you making and reading?
I feel your pain. It’s going to hit 90 tomorrow here in Connecticut. Ugh.It’s too early for that type of weather here. I’m finishing up a hat (my first!) and starting a new book of a new series that I’ve been looking forward to for a few weeks. Looking forward to seeing your completed shawl.
We’ve also got unseasonable 90s, but I’m going to try and get mowing and outside chores done early so I can map out Book Bingo with a glass of iced tea this afternoon. I was excited to get seedlings into the garden over the weekend, but now I have to make sure and water them so they survive this weird weather!
Now I am curious about the “world’s worst knitting shop” — feel free to enlighten me. 😉
I’m so not ready for this heat. I would really like some mid- to upper 70s days. We’ve only planted some of our plants, but I am watering everything frantically so they don’t die before they have a chance to grow.
why would a knit shop be nasty? it seems counter productive to me, because isn’t that part of the way to get people to buy yarn at their store? I’ve heard of another shop that my friend told me about that the owner acted put out by her shopping there. Incredible.
I think I’ll be turning on the AC today at some point with the weather warming up to near 90. My husband loves summer but me….I love cold weather and patiently wait for it to return.
bummer about the knitting being a concentrated knit, I hope your kit comes soon and you can cast on with wild abandon (and knitting happiness!).
Some knitting shops are amazing (not in a good way!!). We, too, are very warm in the Eastern part of PA. Incredible. Your Bingo card looks great. I’ve printed mine out and am planning away!
Love the Bingo idea! My Brambling is also at a point that requires careful tracking, so I’ve put it aside for the time being! I’m hoping to pick it up again next month when things have settled down for me a bit!
The Bingo idea is wonderful, what a great way to think about what you are reading and to expand what you are reading. Heat would be lovely, it is chilly and has rained all day to day, the slugs and snails are out in force!
Not sure how I ended up commenting with my sons name!
I am loving every single minute of this heat! Our 90 degree day is slated for tomorrow. Knitting and reading are slow going. Those blanket squares make me feel like something is happening! And I’ve encountered a few of those nasty owners…I can still hear my Mom…let’s go Patty…they don’t want your business. 🙂
It could be worse. It snowed last night and got down to 33. Tonight won’t be much better. We’ll keep the garden covered until then. May has been cruel! Bring on the 90s!!!
We had 90’s today, and high 80’s/low 90’s tomorrow and Friday is supposed to be 62F. Really?!?!?!?!? (But, I do love the heat…)
I bought plants today, but ran out of time planting them, so that is slated for the more comfortable-ish weekend of around the mid 70F.
Your Air Soft is so pretty! …and I can’t wait to see what books you queue for Bingo (looks like you have a great card!)
Crazy weather!! Most of my knitting is intense right now… so I’ve been sewing! 😉
Hooray for knit night at the library! That’s a great bingo card you’ve got!
Can’t wait to see what books you read for this amazing card!
