September, oh boy. And, the weather here has been incredibly fall-like. It is almost as if someone flipped the switch on summer. Boo hoo! And, all this cool weather means I have sweaters on the brain and that’s all I really want to knit!
But, I have these projects I need to get done! I am working on clue #4 for Laura Aylor’s end of summer MKAL though. It is a very intriguing construction, but there is lots of row counting. Which is not my favorite thing to do.
I am also working away on my charity knitting which has more row counting, but this is a bit easier…because garter ridges.
My goal is to get both things done asap so I can go back to knitting a sweater (or two)!!
On the reading front:
I finished Ragnar Jonasson’s Snow Blind. This is the first book in the “Dark Iceland” series, I gave it 3 stars but I will try another book to see how the characters are developed. I did not figure out who did it until almost the end, but I think this was more because the author talked very little about this character during the book.
I have about 10 chapters or so to go in Beach Music and it is just so good! I am laughing lots, curiously, at this wonderfully dysfunctional family!
I also picked up More Home Cooking from the library and have begun reading it. Laurie Colwin writes in a very approachable and easy manner – which is how cooking should be.
Outside of knitting and reading, my time has been consumed with the garden – and really, preserving what I am harvesting! I made 4 more pints of raspberry jam this week and have pickled some tomatoes. I will let you know how they are later this week!
What about you? What is consuming your week?

Both of your knitting projects are gorgeous and all those tomatoes! You are going to be set for delicious Friday snacks and bloody marys. That may not go well with row counting, but you can to enjoy all the tastes of summer even as fall is approaching.
I have been loving this weather change! I’ve worn jeans a few times this week 🙂 I’m knitting my eternally on the needles sweater, a hat for a gift, and a shawl for a gift. All slow going because I get sidetracked.
The weather was so much cooler on Friday that I came home from work and put on wool socks and a wool sweater! I’m not entirely complaining, but you are absolutely right that it was like someone flipped a switch — I would have liked the change to be a bit more gradual.
I can’t wait to hear how the tomatoes turn out!
LOVE the colors in your yarn! And now I’m off to google Beach Music.
Definitely like a switch here, too! I’m looking forward to a slight warm-up next week… low 70s, which is just about perfection in my book! 😉
I think Im too impulsive to do a KAL where you get a clue a week. I admire those of you that join!
Trying to reset my clock this week. The scurry hurry of the SUMMER of Zach is over. Fireman and I Plan a short hike today. Then KNITTING.
I spent 3 hours in the barn office yesterday working on letters. IT was fun.
A friend , a dear one, Planned a phonecall with me at 11 today. She’s a compassionate old friend. I think she’s just checking in . Her mom has alzheimers and is getting the mitts
I hear you on the sweater knitting – can’t wait to get back to it … and I’m so glad you’re enjoying Beach Music. Conroy does such a great dysfunctional!
Your tomatoes look so yummy and I love the idea of using the brine in a Bloody Mary! I am anxious to get back to my sweater (Sigla which I started in late Spring and then promptly dropped due to heat), but I’ve got two pairs of socks and a shawl on the go…needing to finish something first. The weekend weather (despite the rain) was wonderful, then we were back to muggy yesterday and now it is chilly again.
It’s hard to dislike the cool weather when it means things like cozy sweaters and canning fruits and veggies and more reading time, too!
As with others, cool fall temps here, too! And we need all the coolness we can get in these parts…so much nonsense every day and now that Congress is back, the noise is amplified 90 x over!
Taking each day slowly; savoring the fall as it’s my fave time of the year. Tomatoes do look good! Enjoy!
Cheers~
I’d say it’s way too COLD here . . . but it is getting me in the mood to cast on for a sweater. (I always go into denial when the end of summer comes around.) Your harvest looks so bountiful!
How can you get so much done!! 🙂 I still have about 10 chapters too and I’ve been at it for two weeks! I’m really enjoying it too. Stay warm my friend…I’ve got sweaters on the brain and needles too!
It’s still very hot and sunny (smokey, too!) here in the high mountain desert. I’m not ready for summer to end so I’m happy (but will be happier when the smoke blows out). I wish you lived closer so you could hold my hand while I deal with an abundance of things to harvest. I ate up all my raspberries because they were SO GOOD!
