How on earth is it already October 20?!? Amirite?
But, how is this perfect fall weather? Outside of Monday when frost greeted Sherman and I for our morning constitutional, it has been most gloriously beautiful. Crisp, cool mornings that give way to sunny, warm days. This weather can just stay for a good long while!
Operation List Completion went very well this week, surprisingly and I am feeling decidedly accomplished!
AND, I have some details to share about the Charitable knitting I completed and blocked! It is Justyna Lorkowska’s Close to You pattern, and this might become my “hitchhiker”. Super fun to knit, an easy-to-memorize pattern, and it uses just one skein of sock yarn. I used some deep stash that I got eons ago from The Loopy Ewe. It is Fleece Artist sock yarn (I think 2/8 BFL, sorry I am not sure and the tag is long gone). I love how it turned out and I am thrilled to be helping support this cause: The Foster Success Foundation.
In the book category – I did have a more than slight moment of panic last night!! Two audiobook holds have come through: What (the hell) Happened and Little Fires Everywhere. I have 21 days to finish them…can I do it? (Also, of course this happened after I started listening to Life after Life on a recommendation from Mary!)
For those that love Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown… he is in Pittsburgh this week! You won’t want to miss it! Really!!
Now, how about some links?
- First up, Marie Greene has a new sweater pattern: Azimuth
- Plucky Knitter has a new pattern collection out, but I especially love Martin. I love the versatility of a vest and this one has some cute details!
- There are some new things from Kirsten Kapur and Thea Colman! I love this yarn pairing and really wish I was going to the reception at Jill’s studio!
- Animal Bonnet is just in time for Halloween!
- Electra is beautiful (and it is a lovely shape as well!)
- Tamangur… I love the yarn and the construction of this sweater. (P.S. The yarn is lovely and very affordable!)
- These socks… or maybe these… oy! (And, really… the Socks of Narnia is an awesome collection and reading knitters are my favorite)
And, finally… I am doing a bit of work with my dear friend, Beth Smith. She has some new classes coming and some other wonderful surprises! If you are not on her mailing list, you should be!!
That is all I have for today, enjoy your weekend and I will see you back here on Monday!
Close To You was my Rhinebeck Shawl last year… LOVED that pattern. It works well with so many different types of yarn (speckled, variegated, semi-solid). We’ve had a few chilly mornings recently, too, so I’ve had reason to pull it out again, and have been thinking it would be fun to make another!
Happy Weekend, Kat!
Since retiring I have had a hard time keeping track of my time (or time in general) and it floors me that October is almost over. We’ve been cooler than normal all month so I wonder what winter has in store. Thanks for the great links!
I added Martin to my possible knits. BUt, in fingering? I’d have to have it adjusted to DK. Still in the right yarn it is a stunning design.
My remark, out loud, as I looked at your blog: “Ooh! How lovely!”
Well done my friend…perhaps one day, in my next life…
Enjoy your weekend!
Cheers~
Lovely shawl…I need to get back to mine…buried somewhere in a bag – LOL. It is an easy and fun pattern. Yours looks wonderful.
I love your shawl. And I marked that Martin vest as a favorite just this morning. Do you spin? I have been thinking of learning to spin – is that crazy? Happy Friday
Oooh. Oh, oh oh! I love that shawl. Excuse me while I head off to Ravelry to add it to my queue…
That’s a great little shawl and I’m going to add it to my queue. I loved Life After Life so much! I think, given how much you enjoyed 4321, that you will, too.
I always hate it when books you have on hold . . . all become available at the same time. Feast or famine! Your shawl is just beautiful. I’ve been wanting to knit that ever since I saw Vicki’s last year. (Soon. Soon, I say!) I like that Martin vest/layer pattern, too — but I’m sort of partial to Westnedge Hill (maybe because I drive it nearly every day!).
Have a great weekend!
XO
Very pretty shawl for a very worthwhile cause.
Everybody needs to find “their own Hitchhiker” (and once you do, it’s addicting!) and your Close to You is beautiful! I don’t know what device you use to listen to your Overdrive audiobooks, but I use an old iPod mini without WiFi or 4G. I’ve discovered that once I put the files on this ipod, they don’t disappear (even after the due date) until I delete them manually through itunes. This works perfectly for times when I’ve got several geat books checked out and not quite enough time. You’ve got two of my favorite books this year, so I do hope you get a chance to listen to both!
I really enjoyed Life After Life. I will be curious to know what you think. The shawl is really pretty. And yes, everybody needs their own Hitchhiker. As soon as I finish one more holiday/November birthday gift, I am going to cast on a shawl – my favorite kind of knitting.
I am going to add that gorgeous shawl to my queue. I will knit it! You have inspired me! 🙂
oh man … first September flew by, and now October. also http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bodie-3 (!!!)
October has gone by so quickly, as did Rhinebeck weekend. I’m still processing it all.
Your Close to You is absolutely lovely!
