Hello Unravelers!
It’s the pre-Thanksgiving Unraveled, and I don’t know about you, but there has been little knitting OR reading around here this week.
But, I do have another sweater in progress! I am making my way through the colorwork section of the yoke but with only knitting a couple of rows at night, this won’t be done anytime soon. I am shooting for sleeve divide to be completed next week!
On the reading front – I had hoped to have Ali Smith’s Autumn: A Novel done this week but that has not happened either! Exhaustion has crept in and I have been lucky to read a paragraph before falling asleep.
BUT! I did finish Mary Oliver’s Devotions. Oh my. I loved it, and this has moved into the “must buy” category. The poetry is absolutely wonderful, and it has been much appreciated in these hectic days of late.
In my ears is Bury Your Dead with dear Inspector Gamache. I am not too far along, but it is wonderful!
I also have been reading a few pages of Pioneer Girl each night and I am enjoying it immensely.
I hope your Thanksgiving preparations are going smoothly and that you have no last-minute trips to the grocery store this week!
What are you making this week?
Making homemade cranberry sauce today!
I agree…I dread the grocery store this time of year…but it never fails that we run out of something. Last year I forgot the condensed milk for the pie. This year? I think if there’s something missing we’ll just improvise 😉
Today I’m making homemade crescent rolls, stuffing, and cranberry orange relish. This week, any knitting or reading that you can manage is a good thing, and yours looks great. I’ve only managed a few rows and pages, but I’m glad to be able to fit in any knitting and reading, and definitely avoiding the grocery store!
After work tonight, I’ll be making Strawberry Pretzel Jello, at my daughter’s request, Pineapple Fluff, at my sister-in-law’s request, and Apple Pie Cheesecake, which I have never tried before, but it looks delicious. Not a fan of pumpkin pie, so I always do a cheesecake. Crap. And I’m out of eggs. Guess who will be going to the grocery store?!?!?
Today is all about the baking! Pumpkin muffins and cookies, to be specific. The sweet potatoes were baked last night, and tomorrow morning we’ll mix those up and do the green bean casserole.
I’m helping my sister prep the stuffing and other dishes for tomorrow, then will bake my pies this afternoon-I made the crusts yesterday, so at least that part is done! Maybe I’ll get a few snippets of time to read or knit!
happy pre Thanksgiving! love the tweedy yarn you are knitting with. I haven’t been knitting much or reading much. I hope I meet my Goodreads goal….ugh.
Have you seen the NEW book about Laura Ingalls Wilder? Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder was written up in the NYT and it looks amazing!!
I am knitting a kitten; making gravy & cranberry sauce later!
I’ll be baking pies this afternoon after work and then hopefully knitting tonight!
I’m not making anything today but the full deal tomorrow! We go to a house party tonight…not too late though 🙂
May your prep go well and your gathering divine! I’ve got sweet potato hummus in progress. Really! It should be very good (if you like sweet potatoes). I’ll eat it all if no one else likes it. 🙂
It’s Pie Day here for me . . . plus I’ll be doing a lot of choppin’ to get ahead of the game for tomorrow. Not much knitting going on this week, although I’m trying to fit in a couple of rows (at least) each day on my current sweater.
May your day be productive!
(And, yeah. Mary Oliver’s books are always worth buying!) XO
I found Bury Your Dead to be one of Penny’s best novels in the Gamache series. I enjoyed the historical information about Quebec. How the Light Gets In was also a compelling read. I don’t usually get pulled into a series but for some reason the audio versions have done the trick. I get off easy this year taking a salad and a relish tray to my sister’s home. By the way, sweet potato hummus as mentioned above in the comments sounds intriguing. I hope it is good.
Making corn pudding tomorrow and lotsa “Cheers~” tonight in celebration!
And enjoying quiet on a windy Thanksgiving eve!
Cheers~
Starting the 4th Inspector Gamache title…making lotsa lists for over the next 39 days – yeah, that’s how many days are LEFT in 2017! Toying with starting another hat for the kiddles but just may snooze between watching tv and reading this eve.
Cheers~
I made cranberry sauce and brussels sprouts yesterday – which leaves rice stuffing and turkey for today … hopefully, time for knitting, too! Happy Thanksgiving!!
