That’s right, Olympic Knitting starts now! Or rather at 6AM EST as Sprite so kindly advised me of. So, yes… I was up early and cast on, (not once but twice…grrr!) Above is my progress thus far on my Carbeth. I will be sitting down with Sherman Alexie and get some quality knitting time in today on this project. Also, the above photo is a much better example of the color of the color of my yarn. Kym asked me if I was making any modifications – and yes, I am! Because well… cropped sweater + mom-belly = super unattractive look (I am not saying Kym has a mom-belly, I am certain she does not, however, I DO have a mom-belly and I like to keep it covered, thank you very much!)
But, yes. I am making some mods to the knitting. Kym was worried about how this would look because the design is so perfect the way it is. So, excuse my poor rendering of where I am going… but I am doing less ribbing on the sleeves and shortening them a bit. And, I am adding 8 inches to the body…which for me nicely covers my mom-belly.
But, even with these mods, it should be a quick knit!
I am hesitant to share links today, because well… I am already knitting all the things! But, here go you!
Did you all see Rowan Denim Lace? Okay, I might have done more than oooing and ahhhing over this collection!
Also, the Spring Issue of Pom Pom Quarterly has some gorgeous designs!
Sarah Jordan has a new sock heel design that looks most intriguing!
If you need one more Ravellenic Project, Susan Ashcroft has one for you! Just Slip It (and it is free!)
This planned pooling is amazing
Svetlana’s Winter Story Mittens are so gorgeous!
And, finally… something to get us through the next season, Julie Hoover’s Hatcher
That is all I have for the week! Enjoy your weekend and go Team USA and Team Rules Schmules! See you all back here on Monday!
I am in for gold too! I certainly have some wips but I am also casting on a new shawl this weekend. And I would need to lengthen that sweater too. Cropped is not a style that is very kind for my mom/gramma figure????
Good luck in your quest for gold!
Mom belly, lol! I guess I have one, too, and I just do not do cropped anything, so I like your modifications!
Thanks, as always, for linking to my pattern. I’m so grateful for all the love it’s received!
I have a mom belly, too (I’ve had one since BEFORE I was a mom — yay genes)! I normally shy away from cropped sweaters & things, too, but I do have a few things that I use as layers and can be OK. I’m looking forward to seeing your finished Carbeth in a couple of weeks! I’ve been envisioning one with a funnel neck and 3/4-length sleeves. Knit on! 😉
How are you liking Sherman Alexie’s book?
I do like the Carbeth pattern but as others mentioned, I am not fond of cropped sweaters/tops, due to the “Grandma Belly”, my version. One of my granddaughters asked me what it was (she was sitting on my lap facing me) and poked it deliberately. I said it was just a variation of bellies, everybody has a belly. Ha, I was avoiding to mention it was probably my eating habits, and really those darn genes.
No cropping here either! Also carrying that family belly! Genes are fabulous aren’t they? Looking forward to watching you win the gold!
Also not a fan of cropped anything!!! We’ll see how my swatching looks, and then I should be on my way for Carbeth.
Loving the links!!!
Oh, and also doing bracelet(or maybe elbow-length)sleeves. Depending on yarn. LOL I bought all that they had.
That looks like a great plan, Kat! And count me in the Mom-belly camp, too. (It’s all relative, y’know???) Which is why the Carbeth confounds me so. Because I want it. But (a) don’t have awesome plaid kilt to wear with it and (b) Mom-belly. I will watch yours unfold with great anticipation. XOXO
Knit on! I decided to start the log cabin mitts – why wait? – so I bought yarn y’day as I dinna have any colors I wanted…grey, white and yellow…wound up with Steelers’ colors so I’m still looking for a grey…but I may go with the 3 I have…tbc!
Enjoy your knitting and the Olympics.
Cheers~
I looked through all of them Julie HOover’s designs are very pretty. Thanks for fun links on a freezing day here.
I’ll be rooting for you! I’m intrigued by Julie Hoover’s pattern! Thank you for that link!
I am cheering y’all on from the sidelines! …and curious about your Carbeth. That yarn does not look at all chunky – are you doubling it? Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend!
