I don’t want to sit there and be like, ‘Oh, I don’t care what the audience thinks.’ It does matter to me. I just want them to think, to be honest. – Donald Glover
I have debated long with myself about posting this, but the impact that this has had on me is such that I am compelled to share. A warning, the link below contains powerful but graphic images, please proceed with caution.
Sometimes, in that which is incredibly uncomfortable you find that what you cannot comprehend you feel with amazing clarity. You can read some of the thoughts on the symbolism in Glover’s This is America here and here. There is much more on the Twitterverse as this has been trending since the video was posted Saturday night. The imagery in this video is stunning. Each time I watch it, I find new things to see and feel. It is powerful, painful, and perfect.
Thank you, Mr. Glover, for making me think.
I’m a little sheltered and oblivious to some things (and usually too tired for SNL), so I thank you for posting this. Disturbing and uncomfortable things make us feel that way for many reasons, and it’s always a good thing “to think, to be honest”.
It’s stunning.
This will have to wait until after work but you’ve got me intrigued, that’s for sure.
I’ve been meaning to watch the full thing for several days but haven’t had the chance yet — but I will later because of all I’ve been hearing about it.
It is difficult for me to stay up late on Saturday night but I usually do because SNL is so provocative. Glover was a genius! This video is right on.
Thank you for sharing this … I rely on my friends to keep me posted on things I need to know and this is something that hadn’t even crossed my radar.
I saw this video trend on twitter and have watched it at least four times (and counting) and find something new every time I watch it. Incredibly artistic and sends a powerful message on many levels.
