I don’t mean to be Debbie Downer for today’s Three Things, but I cannot be silent on this.
My three things today are just one huge thing that has been weighing heavily on my mind and my heart over the past weeks.
May 7 Sessions gave a speech that was more than a warning shot across the bow of the humane treatment of immigrants coming to our nation. And, just like that – with a few words of hate – we became something incredibly vile and evil.
Since the “Zero Tolerance” policy too effect, more than 1,300 children have been taken away from their families and in the past days reports of how separated families are being treated are coming to light.
Today, Families Belong Together is taking a stand. There might be an event near you that you can participate in, but better than that there is a virtual event today – Lunchtime for Change – complete with links for petitions and how to get in touch with your elected officials complete with a script for your call.
If you do only do one thing today…make a phone call. We cannot be silent.
Thanks Kat. I now have lunchtime plans!
My heart is truly breaking. I cannot believe these kinds of things are happening in this country!
I am so ashamed to be an American right now! I can hardly watch the news because it is so sickening and it keeps going on and on. What a disgrace, what a horror that this is happening in our country!
Horrifying.
…and quiet as it’s been kept (?), this treatment of people of color: total disregard for their existence, their lives, has been going on for centuries! Thank you for sharing the information for contacting congressional representatives ~ unfortunately, this nation’s capital residents have no vote in Congress! But we keep at it!
Thank you for enlightening us on ways to protest this horrible policy.
This administration is humiliating. I want to apologize to the rest of the world.
Thank you, Kat – now more than ever we need to stick together and share good information about how to help!
I cannot bear to listen to/read the news any more. That said, I MUST. We all must continue to be vigilant and pay attention and DO SOMETHING.
Everyone can do their part.
This is utter insanity, the continued de-humanizing of immigrants. Separating families is inhumane and should not even be up for debate – absolutely heartbreaking beyond words. Thank you for your advocacy. We can certainly do something by contacting our representatives and exercising our right to vote.
