Greetings, Unravelers! Happy Wednesday to you!
This week the knitting has been focused…and the result is a finished blanket!
Things I learned:
- Applied i-cord must be knit with a larger needle than you think…I should have done a practice square. The blanket is currently soaking and ready for its final “blocking” but, imo… the i-cord is a tiny bit tight. BUT… I am not taking it out and redoing it. I believe it will be okay in the finished product, but for blanket number two, I am going up in needle size to accommodate for my tension.
- Joining squares and then rows means LOTS of ends to weave in. I was wise and left some of the edges to weave into the i-cord… three cheers to that me from this me! Well done!
- Things take WAY longer than you think they will to complete. Blanket Two Assembly is underway…at.long.last.
Reading….
This is where I generally post books I have finished…. Except this week, I have NO FINISHES! I know…so sad. So, instead lets do this weeks current reads…
I am listening to Jon Meacham’s American Gospel: God, The Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation. I am just over half way though and I will hold my commentary until I have finished, but Meacham’s writing is wonderful!
I am reading The Overstory, which is fascinating. It seems to be a collection of stories about different people with the common thread of trees in the story… and as a hater of short stories, I must say I am loving this. Really. A lot! I have less than half to go to finish and I find that I am angry at myself for being tired and needing to put the iPad down. A true sign of a very good book!
That is what I have in progress this week… what about you? What’s on your making and reading list this week? If you wrote a post to share, please leave your link below!

The blanket looks great, Kat. 🙂 (And you are a saint.)
XO
Kat, the blanket looks awesome! Thanks for all your hard work to complete it!
YOU ROCK!!!
I have learned so much about knitting in the last year. Would that make a good post? Things we are learning
I LOVE the blanket! There is a special place in heaven for you for finishing not one but two blankets!
Lovely blanket Kat! Congratulations and cheers to you for completing TWO!!!
I’m on the wait list (thinking I’m up to #2 or maybe even #1) for Overstory and so looking forward to that.
My tales (all good) are on my blog.
I cannot wait to see the finished blanket — it’s going to be a real stunner!
I’m currently reading “The Hate U Give,” which I finally got from the library after being on the waiting list for more than a month. It’s really good, and I’m hoping work is calm this week so I can finish it (shhh, don’t tell anyone I’m reading at work when I’m not busy!).
You took on quite a challenge to finish two blankets. Kudos to you! I’m knitting and reading. 🙂
Not much reading going on right now. I’m definitely in a reading slump.
However, the knitting is coming along just fine.
Thank-you so much for putting that blanket together! And the i-cord edge must be stunning!
I’ve been plugging away at all sorts of “un fun” things, namely my car and that’s a story for a blog post when I return to blog land. Otherwise, reading print and listening to podcasts and walks. Haven’t picked up any sort of a needle, stitching, knitting or otherwise. The upside: nothing to unravel. The downside: nothing gets done!
Cheers~
It seems as if there is always something to learn while knitting. And no, do not take out any i-cord on the first blanket. I am sure it will be fine. I am also not a fan of short stories but The Overstory has been mentioned by several in this group. I may have to add it to the library list.
Those blankets sound like a lot of work, my hat is off to you for doing that. I definitely plan on reading The Overstory, too!
that blanket is beautiful and she will love receiving it! Well done!
The final product is going to be fantastic!
I need to read that Meacham book.
I really appreciate Meacham’s insight. I’m listening to “The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels”, excellent. Your book on trees sounds fascinating, I’ll look for it. The blanket looks beautiful. From blanket experience, I wish I remembered to tuck in those loose ends while I finish a square, but that’s interesting about leaving ends on purpose at the edge. I’ll remember that. Thanks for the tips! My blog this week – https://lovelyyarnescapes.blogspot.com/2018/10/yarns-knitting-in-plaid.html
Woot for a finished blanket!! …you know what I thought about American Gospel and Soul of America. can’t wait to get your thoughts!
A re-read of Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk as I am the facilitator for our next book club. Finishing up some WIPs as I want the needles empty for December and 2019 winter knitting.
