Summertime is always the best of what might be. — Charles Bowden
Happy Summer Solstice! After torrential overnight rains, this morning the clouds are giving way to pale blue skies. The humidity is gone, and the birds are singing! I have shut off the AC and opened wide the windows, welcoming in the cool air. After a week of rarely seeing the sunshine, this is the perfect start to summer!
Celebrating:
Our ninth “anniversary” of sorts! I use the word anniversary loosely because we are not married – but no less committed to each other (and perhaps more so!) Anyways, we had the most hilarious conversation this morning where we struggled with the date a bit – how many years now? After much conversation and checking of calendars – Happy 9 years of co-habitation! The highlight of the morning thus far was the email informing me that I have 1 year of BritBox awaiting me! Steve does know me so well – sometimes is scares me! Ha! Anyways, I have plans to celebrate tonight with our usual Happy Hour, which tonight will be a Happy Anniversary Hour! And, I think the weather is going to cooperate nicely and allow for a bit of a bonfire tonight!
Making:
Yesterday I got all the pieces cut out for Vivi’s quilt top (thanks to Middlemarch – which is the most engaging company) and this morning my plan was to start sewing squares together… But perhaps it would be a better thing to get this yarn skeined up and soaking since the weather is perfect for drying yarn! I also need give my Screen Door a quick soak and a bit of blocking. Yesterday, I pulled out this project and managed to get past the sleeve divide. And, this weekend I want to make some more of this incredible jam. It is insanely delicious – far less sweet – and much faster than this jam. I did NOT strain the jam as suggested in the recipe. As you can see, there is no shortage of “making” going on here.
Watching:
The latest season of The Handmaid’s Tale and a new series, Das Boot – both on Hulu. I also finally caught up with the latest season of Bosch on Amazon. And, best of all – the latest season of Endeavor on PBS!
Loving:
Michelle’s Summer Friday Prompts! They are a wonderful thing to contemplate and I am carrying them with me through the week in my morning meditation time. This week’s prompt was ironically timely – and I am profoundly grateful for the prompts. It is always a good reminder to look beyond the bad and think about the future – and to find something to be grateful for.
Asking:
For your valued input! I have been thinking about the future of Unraveled Wednesday – is it stale? Does it need a reboot? How many weeks can we really be excited to talk about our making and reading? I welcome your thoughts, comments, and suggestions! (and if you don’t want to leave a comment here you are welcome to email me at kachrist37 (at) gmail (dot) com – of course you know to swap out the (at) and (dot) with an ampersand and a period.
That is what is happening in my world right now – Have an amazing weekend and I will see you back here on Monday! (And, I look forward to your thoughts and suggestions about Unraveled Wednesdays!)
My husband and I lived together for around 25 years when he discovered that if we married I could be on his insurance which would mean we could afford to retire at 62. What a romantic proposal. So, we did get married, on my parents’ anniversary (“so we can always remember it”). Ha. We never remember it. Someone asked us how long we’ve been married and we don’t even know what year we married and we can’t find the license. However–all that is to say, happy anniversary to you! And many more!
Happy Anniversary!! I’ll look forward to seeing your Friyay Anniversary Snacks on IG and hope you can have the fire tonight – that will be perfect! And Britbox!! I’m thinking of subscribing (Shetland!!!).
I like Unraveled Wednesdays…I enjoy seeing what everyone is making (one way or another) and reading. It is often where I get my book suggestions since I’m not on Good Reads. Having said that, however, if you are tired of it or bored with it, then it’s time to do something else! This blogging thing is supposed to be enjoyable, right?
Happy Anniversary!!!
I enjoy Unraveled Wednesday, though we are all makers and readers… and the reason most of us started blogging in the first place was to share our making (knitting in most cases, though that’s expanded quite a bit) (yay!). Back in the day, you’d be hard-pressed to find a blog post amongst us that didn’t talk mostly about knitting. It’s all so much more now. I like knowing that Wednesday is the day. That said, Wednesday is usually my day off and I don’t often read blogs that day, much less write a post of my own. Plus, I read VERY slowly and knitting hasn’t been all that speedy lately, either.
Happy anniversary to you and Steve! I’ll raise a toast in your honor this evening! Also thank you for linking to that jam recipe — it sounds simple enough that even I can do it, and I think it would be fabulous on vanilla ice cream!
My usually blogging days during the week are Tuesday and Thursday, so I don’t usually participate in Unraveled Wednesdays, but I am always happy to read those posts! Plus I don’t think I’ll ever not be excited about making and reading.
Obviously I enjoy Unraveled Wednesdays. Sometimes it’s the only time of the week my knitting sees the fresh air! But if you don’t enjoy it, then clearly you should stop doing it. (Fwiw, the only reason I don’t do the linkup anymore is because your new system requires logging in and I have stopped doing that. So I just play along and link to your post without the extra step.)
Happy Anniversary. Sounds as if you have lots of interesting making going on. I enjoy Unraveled Wednesday too. However if you are tired of it and want to do something else – go for it. This is your space and it should make you happy.
Happy Anniversary!!!
I love Unraveled Wednesday, but if you’re feeling a change is due, by all means try something else!
Happy Anniversary!
I love Michelle’s prompts too, though this week it stirred up some feelings I’ve been trying to suppress (silly homesickness…). I always plan to write things down and never do, but I guess just thinking about it is good too.
I really like the routine of Unraveled Wednesdays and I love to see what other people are reading and making, but I can imagine you need a change. Or maybe just a summer break to see how it feels for you not doing them?
Happy Anniversary! I hope you had a wonderful evening. I think Maggie hit the nail in the head…maybe a summer break? Though I also get great reading ideas from Unraveled Wednesday. How’s that for no answer! ????????????
On… 🙂
Happy anniversary!! You’ll have to let us know what you think of britbox…I’m intrigued!
I love Unravelled Wednesday, I love that midweek check in, just seeing what you (and everyone else) is reading, knitting and generally up to.
UW stretches my imagination and creativity and also is a grounding of sorts…it is also a benchmark for the week. I agree with all of us: do what makes you happy and comfortable. We’ll still be here to learn, share and be inspired!
