Today, I am going to talk about languishing projects… sometimes they languish for a reason, amirite?
This one has been languishing for a L-O-N-G time.
For the longest time I tried and tried to get back to knitting it. Why, I even put it in the basket next to my bed thinking that might spur me to work on it.
It didn’t. And, then it dawns on you why this is a languishing project…. You just don’t want the sweater at all – you won’t wear it, it no longer (or perhaps never) was what you were looking for.
But you bought the yarn – so you must knit it, right?
Nope! You don’t. And, today I am frogging it – guilt free!
Oh, and all that Einband is about to become Reagan – and I could not be happier about it!
Now, my reads this week:
First – after Carole’s review of Days Without End, I was so happy to see it was available from the library. Wow – I loved it! Every single word. It is a painfully poignant story and I have not been able to stop thinking about it. Just go read it! (And, the audio version had a marvelous narrator!) 5-stars
Up next, Big Sky – the fifth book in the Jackson Brodie series. I enjoyed it – tremendously (although it took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, I devoured it!) 4-stars.
What about you? Do you have a languishing project you just need to frog?
If you wrote a post to share today, please leave your link below and thank you!
Life is way too short to knit things you don’t like. And even though sheep will continue to grow more wool, it’s a shame to waste good yarn on a project that’s not inspiring or exciting. I’m glad you have decided to rip in favor of a sweater that’s calling to you!
I do not, thankfully, have any languishing projects, but I will say that it felt really good to rip out that sweater a couple of weeks ago. I hadn’t worn it in years and it was just taking up space in my sweater drawer. Now I feel much better knowing it’s being put to good use!
That grey is such a pretty shade. I’m glad you’ve decided on a project that is calling you – have fun with it!
Yup, frog, re-wind, see what the yarn really wants to be, and no guilt! I’ve got a long stretch of time spent alone in NJ coming in mid-September, and I’m going to use some of it to *really* deal with my yarn closet. It will be much cooler then, and I am going to get out all of the yarn and lingering, hidden-away projects and deal with them ruthlessly. Now that I’ve written it here, it’s official!
Good for you, Kat! Just because you started . . . doesn’t mean you need to finish. 🙂 That yarn will be a lovely something-else. I only have one languishing project, and I do mean to finish it. Someday. (It’s an afghan. . . ) (I had 2 languishing projects right up until this week — when I finally knit the second sock to “match” the first one I knit so long ago I can’t even remember how many years it’s been. . . )
Nothing sitting around for a long time. I have short term and long term projects going. I have been bit by the knit bug probably because the weather felt coolish. I have frogged so many things in my lifetime, and it’s okay to me to realize something isn’t working out for me.
Yup! Frog or quit or donate or reconsider – all options and I applaud you for making the right guilt-free decision for you! I’m working on making those decisions too…never too late!
Read on!
Cheers~
I don’t have any languishing projects to frog but I am still working on my peace cowl and that languished for a LONG time! I enjoy the knitting but I don’t think the end product will be for me, I just need to figure out who it is actually going to be for. I’m glad you enjoyed Days Without End.
I knit Reagan earlier this year, and loved it, and I’m about to read Big Sky!
I just bought two more balls of yarn (for the two contrast bands) to knit Blaer … I’ll be unraveling a languishing WIP for the main color. Sometimes we just need knitting projects to … be right I guess. I finished (devoured) Big Sky yesterday and I love that I can still hear Jackson’s voice in my head. well. sort of love 😉
Well yes. Yesterday I frogged the infamous Peasy sweater I’ve been posting about. Once I got started it wasn’t all that painful. Some projects just aren’t meant to be finished and that is more than ok.
So happy to see that you’re putting that yarn to good use and starting a Reagan. I’m wearing mine right now — it’s delightful!! That yarn is going to make a beautiful sweater. I hope you enjoy knitting it 🙂
