Winter has returned with a vengeance here in Pittsburgh! Most of the week our temperatures have been in the 50’s and this morning we have a dusting of snow covering that is covering a rather nasty bit of ice and it appears my YakTrax will get their inaugural use today!
If you are heading outside today, I hope you have lots of warm woolens to wear!
And, speaking of woolens – I got the loveliest package from Lerwick yesterday. I was amazed by the heady sheepy aroma of these yarns and this is the first time Sherman has ever been remotely interested in yarn! While that odor might put some off, I love the minimal processing of this yarn. I can feel the lanolin, and this will be a lovely wintery treat to knit with! I am not good at all at putting together colors for colorwork, so I defaulted to the colors that Amy Christoffers used for her Pheasant Pullover. Wow, I am so glad I did! This brown has the most incredible depth! As you can see, swatching has begun and I plan to cast on this weekend!
Do you ever feel “multi-project guilt”? You are not alone and I read the most interesting work around for multi-project rotation this morning – The Gideon Method!
I fell in love with Kristin Drysdale’s Solveig Cardigan both the gorgeous knitting and embroidery and the story behind it… knitting and Edvard Grieg, who knew?! End note… here is one of the loveliest renditions of Solveig’s Song, in case you are interested! This sweater has great potential to be my “summer knitting project”!
And, in case you do not feel the lure of colorwork, and sweater are not your thing… did you see Melanie Berg’s Kleine Schwester – “Little Sister” of Rheinlust?
That is all I have for today – I hope you stay warm and have some knitting to fill your lap! Have a good weekend and I will see you back here next week!
I bought some yarn in the Scottish Highlands and I felt like I was lotioning my hands with lanolin every time I touched it! Such good sheepiness. We’re in for 5-7 inches of snow in the next day or so, followed by temps in the teens, and then maybe a warm-up… but we’re a long way from 50F around here!
I like the rotation idea of the Gideon method and may try something similar. Too many wips cause me stress, but I also get bored if I’m knitting completely monogamously. It’s cold and windy here, with snow on the way, so it sounds like good knitting weather. Enjoy your lovely sheepy yarn weekend cast-on!
Lucky you to get such great mail all the way from Shetland! I can’t wait to see how it knits up. Is the coned yarn oiled (so you have to wash it)?
I think I’ve been doing a variation of the Gideon Method for a while without realizing it. I definitely rotate my WIPs and usually spend several crafting sessions on one before moving to the next. I’m not sure I’d want to keep such close track as to count up my time, but I do like the general idea of it.
Hope you didn’t encounter too much ice out there! We had next to nothing, barely a dusting of snow on the grass!
OMG. You are a “bad” influence on me. Did I NEED yarn??? That would be NO! Did I BUY yarn? Of course I did. LOL I will be making my Peasant Pullover in a different color (dark purple) and will probably make it a cardigan, since I’m not a good wearer of pullovers, but it looks like a fun project!
We are expecting 4″-8″ of snow this evening, with rain to follow, and then the whole world will freeze for days and days. I can hardly wait!!!
I hope to locate a project to work on over the weekend. My knitting mojo is in full force, but I can not find the projects that I want to work on. I am so over this whole moving thing.
Enjoy your weekend!!!
You are making me want to go yarn shopping. what a beautiful yarn and I love a lanolin feel to wool, smoothes my hands while I knit 🙂
Oh dear! That Pheasant sweater keeps calling to me and the yarn you purchase is gorgeous. I find that when I have several projects “on the go” I do rotate, but always seem to have heavy emphasis (or even end up with monogamy) on one. How did you like your YakTrax? I have hiking poles I can use, but was wondering if I should get some Trax…
Enjoy the weekend!
I love yarn that feels very sheep-y! I’m wearing my newly fixed and finished Stopover today and it’s just the thing for the very cold weather and strong winds we are having. Happy (long) Weekend!
Love the sweater choice Kat! Stay warm and enjoy…we’re in the single digits today and snow tomorrow. Sounds like Manhattan weather to me!
I love looking at your yarn and projects. You definitely inspire me! 🙂
Good luck with the YakTrax–I love mine!
I love, love the Gideon method and starting- now! I can see using this for my quilting and sewing projects as well, not to mention some spinning! Love that yarn from Scotland you bought. For some bizarre reason I started a Fair Isle vest this morning, why, no clue.
Here in Colorado we are expecting cold and high winds. Will be interesting, as 3 generations of women are headed to Cheyenne for our 3rd Women’s March Saturday morning. Cheyenne’s wind is like no other in this country. Hope we can all stay on our feet and the highway stays open! have a great weekend!
I’m going to try that Gideon method. And so fun to see your yarn. I have been in that shop!
YakTrax have saved my life more than once – they are so wonderful!
I loved the post about the Gideon Method – luckily I haven’t had starteritis with knitting projects in a long time, but I do sometimes get starteritis with books! It’s funny how those challenges can be the same across so many hobbies.
Klein Schwester is so lovely!! It’s been too long since I’ve knit a shawl. And Andrea Mowry’s new pattern, Satellite, was just released and now I want to make that!! TOO MANY PATTERNS!!
LOVE those colors. Can’t wait to see this project. Multi-project guilt-not sure I’ll let you know when I have the 3 sweaters and 4 pairs of sock finished. Granted the socks are in varying stages of completion. So far, no guilt just trying to figure out how to knit in my sleep or while cooking so I can get everything closer to the finish line!
