I am joining with Carole today to share some brilliance regarding the Impeachment Trial currently underway…Yesterday began the question phase of the trial where the Senators submit questions for Justice Roberts to read out loud at which point either the selected counsel or both the House Managers and the President’s counsel answers the question or does not, as the case may be. (and there are a lot more not answered questions than are answered)
Thing One:
Don’t expect there to be any more honesty in this trial than there is from the IMPOTUS-in-Chief…
As a friend points out, the Supreme Court takes another hit as a credible institution as Chief Justice Roberts presides over a trial in which Trump’s lawyers lie (see “secret bunker”) and make absurd arguments (see Dershowitz: anything goes if it helps the president’s reelection)

Thing Two:
Meanwhile, while no one is paying attention:
ICYMI, cause I sure did.
Allies of Pres Trump have begun holding events in black communities where they praise the president as they hand out *tens of thousands of dollars in cash* to attendees. First giveaway took place last month in Cleveland.

Thing Three:
Finally, if you do nothing else today – please call your Senators!
Have you called your Senators? 202-224-3121 gets you to the switchboard. If you think this is pointless, it’s not. It’s just as important to support your senator if your believe they’re on the right path as it is to share your views with one who you disagree with. Be counted.

That’s all I have for today, see you back here tomorrow!
Thank you for the info, Kat! I can’t stand to watch the trial but I usually try to catch up and educate myself at the end of the day with a glass of wine and NPR, NYT, Politico, and The Hill. I had missed Thing Two! I thought “buying votes” was illegal. Let’s hope the recipients take the money and are smart enough to still vote against him.
I like Bonny’s strategy/coping mechanism for listening. I think I better follow suit (especially since wine at 11an MST is probably a smidge early).
Yes, Yes, Yes to #3!! Those calls DO matter! So glad you posted that, Kat!
I have been trying to limit my intake of trial content because it makes me so mad! This whole process has made it very clear to me that Republicans care more about their own power than about our country. I hadn’t heard about thing 2, but clearly that’s just more of the same. The old saying that “absolute power corrupts absolutely” is so true. (I’ve thought about calling Toomey’s office, but I think it would be an exercise in futility.)
Can I have Dale call you when he wants to talk about the impeachment trial? I just can’t stomach it and I feel bad because he’s yearning for someone to talk to about it all!
Oh my, this is clearly a very ‘hot’ topic with you all in the US right now – we have a news programme called 100 Days here in the UK which has been reporting on all the ins and outs. You have my sympathy … We have our own awfulness over here, as the UK exits the EU on Friday. So often I think of our two nations “You couldn’t make it up …”.
I contacted my senators! Thank you for the reminder. 🙂
Thank you for the reminder to call Senators who are doing the right thing. I was talking about that with a friend earlier but of course, forgot the minute I got home.
and…item #2…UGH. Retching.
I have constant “background” malaise these days (even more than usual), and I know it’s . . . All This. I’m limiting my intake of news, but still staying a little bit connected. (Less every day, though.) So. Disgusting.
