Yes, this weekend will be one hour shorter when we turn our clocks ahead in the wee hours of Sunday morning. (or are you an entirely digital household and need to change no clocks manually?) My house is a mixture of digital and manual, so I will have a few things to change Saturday night before bed. However, there is no quick fix for changing the clock in Sherman… he operates on one time and one time only: the ‘is it time to eat yet’ time!
This week was really lovely – bouts of sunshine, punctuated with temps in the 50’s… and boy, do I suddenly have spring fever…bad!
My library surprised me on Tuesday night and personally informed me that my copy of Louise Erdrich’s new novel, The Night Watchman was ready for me to check out! And, then Wednesday Louise was on Fresh Air… the interview is wonderful and I am eager to start her new book!
I struggle with exercise and I beat myself up all the time because of those struggles, but then I listened to this Life Kit episode and I am not going to beat myself up any longer… it was wonderful (and so freeing!!) to hear that ALL MOVEMENT COUNTS!
I spent some time yesterday sorting through my stash of hand spun yarn to put some choices together to knit along with Vicki and friends as we all make Nightshift shawls! I think I have a pretty good start on where I want to go! But!! I curbed my enthusiasm to cast on because of those so.close.to.the.finish Miss Lime socks and this morning I only have the toe to go! (Rachel Maddow and Elizabeth Warren are fantastic knitting companions, just saying!) The absolute insanity of this all is that I knit these socks in eight days! Vera…I think you have created a monster!
And these “think spring” things caught my eye this week:
- First, Jana Huck’s latest pattern, Three – simple texture, LOVE IT!
- Next, quince&co will be celebrating their tenth anniversary this year and their just released linen remix collection is full of good things!
Finally, the winner of Ravelry this week (for me at least) is the Stockholm Slipover Mini (English translation is on its way…) but really, this picture was the thing that said knit me now:
Everyone with me now…AWWWWWWWW!
That’s all I have for this week…have a good weekend all!

Socks are such fun to knit and so satisfying, no? I bet you don’t stop either – lol. The Quince collection looks really, really nice. Enjoy the weekend Kat! (even if it is 1 hour shorter…)
I am jumping on the nightshift wagon too. And thanks for the podcast link. I have been looking for some new podcasts. Happy Friday!
This was a good week, in so many ways! I also heard Louise Erdrich on Fresh Air, and love how she was so soft-spoken but forceful and honest at the same time. Her grandfather was an extraordinary man and I placed a hold on The Night Watchman as soon as I was done listening. Congratulations on your incredibly fast sock knitting and I can’t wait to see your handspun in your Nightshift!
Yes, finally a weekend of the sun. We certainly soaked it up, and plan to do so this weekend as well. Just when I was on a pattern buying freeze Quince and CO has to release some must knits- ugh! Happy Friday!
I love the color of those socks, too! Have a great weekend, Kat!
Thanks for bringing the Louise Erdrich interview to my attention — definitely need to listen to that!
I’m not looking forward to losing the hour of sleep, but I am looking forward to more light! Enjoy your weekend — which I predict will have some finished socks for you!
Those socks are sooooo awesome. And the little girl in the vest…I’m dying here! Have a great weekend Kat…what are we drinking this afternoon?
I never like the spring time change – in theory. But my body certainly adjusts to it much quicker than the fall time change. (Go figure.) The dogs? They’re on Sherman’s time schedule! Your socks are great, Kat. Such a fun design — and a lovely color. Happy weekend.
Great socks and hooray for an early spring – it’s felt that way here, too.
I have reminded and reminded the ladies who are leading worship Sunday about the Spring Forward. I plan to mentally set my clock ahead tomorrow AFTERNOON (because losing an hour then seems way better than losing an hour of sleep!) I am in awe of your socks. seriously need to up my game there 🙂 and PetiteKnitter is my new-favorite designer. I want to knit EVERY single one of her designs. (well, for me. sadly, the littles in my life are not her demographic) One of my friends is expecting TWO grandchildren this spring and surely one of them will be a girl?!
I’m more excited about Daylight Savings Time than I am any actual holidays.
I LOVE your Milne quote — I didn’t know he wrote anything other than Pooh Bear stories. Now I’m on the hunt!!
You have quite a ‘night’ theme going here – The Night Watchman AND The Nightshift Shawl!
Those socks are gorgeous and you’re reminding me how much I miss knitting socks. The Maddow/Warren interview was amazing – I haven’t seen it yet but have seen highlights. I’m so sad by the suspension of her campaign. Warren is an amazing woman and I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do next in the Senate!
celebrate what you do do and don’t beat yourself up over the exercise. It took a long long time for me to be in the habit and I grumbled all. the. way. Now I cannot imagine a day without it! Go figure. For me I like to do the treadmill and I have a book on my Kindle that I ONLY read on the treadmill. So I want to see what happens next so I look forward to the treadmill. Operant conditioning I think it’s called 🙂
