Over the weekend, I got out the big camera and took a few photos. Okay, I took dozens of photos but only a few “turned out.” And, yes, turned out – as in to (accidentally) happen in a particular way…the effort was there but having not used the big camera for a long time my skills are exceedingly rusty! And the wind on Sunday was not at all beneficial – but the early morning light was perfect. Are the pictures perfect? No, but I love the shadows on these lilac blooms. I love how they open individually – each on its own schedule. And the fragrance. It is heavenly. That wind that played havoc with my picture taking worked diligently to waft the lilac aroma around… and that was most appreciated.
I know some of you had snow last week. But there is a poem for that… and it is simply perfect! (really, go listen!) Today in my gratitude list I am including Maxine Kumin for her beautiful words. Yes, that was a lovely rabbit hole to traverse on a Sunday morning!
There was some mystery knitting (clue two from Larissa Brown is done and clue three from Romi is in progress.) And, I bought a thing! And started!! And struggled! I will share my progress later this week.
In an effort to conserve vermouth (yes, that is absolutely a thing in my house right now) It was a vodka and soda weekend. However, I am happy to report that Trader Joe’s Cranberry-Mandarin Orange sparkling water is the perfect thing for a vodka and soda! No sugar, and the perfect hint of flavor in the soda – not too much and not too little!
Finally, today is my son’s favorite day of the year. I confess, I laughed at some of the suggestions in this Rolling Stones article on how to participate safely from home!
That’s it from me today! I hope you all had a great weekend!
LOL at your son’s favorite day! Use to be a HUGE day here in Colorado, but I guess it has lost its punch (in your face illegal thing), since it is very legal. An essential business during COVID19.
I guess it shows what a goody-goody I was growing up that it wasn’t until the end of college that I knew what 4/20 was (and someone had to explain it to me!). Your lilac shots are lovely. I noticed some buds on our lilac bushes but they haven’t yet started opening up. I am looking forward to that first whiff of their scent!
Oh, I cannot wait for lilac season around here!! I am five rows away from the end of Romi’s Clue 2 (fingers crossed!).
Lilacs…definitely one of my favorite garden scents! Up there with peonies. Kat, I’m not a good photographer (at all) (but I’m working on it…signed up for Great Courses, but I have to admit I don’t feel like I’m getting much out of it yet). What is your recommendation for a decent entry-level camera? Thanks!!
Your lilac photos are beautiful (I can almost smell them)! I would buy a case of that TJ cranberry-mandarin sparkling water and drink it mixed with vodka all the time! I’m wondering if it’s worth an hour drive to get some. Ryan called this morning to wish me a happy 4/20, but we don’t get to celebrate here in NJ (not without a medical card).
Here in Massachusetts 4/20 is a big deal except right now only the medical facilities are open, recreational shops are closed due to the pandemic. I love your lilac shots! Ours are a long way from blossoms.
Oh–such lovely and hopeful lilac shots.
Lilacs are literally my favorite. Yours are gorgeous! Ours are just starting to get green buds on them, but they’ll soon be here – I hope!
Your lilacs are way ahead of ours…ours are still so tight and dark. I don’t think we will have many blooms this year (again), but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised. That is a beautiful poem by Maxine Kumin!
My son is partial to “yesterday” (by the time I got around to blog-reading, it’s no longer the actual day) as well. 😉 Lovely lilac shots, Kat! (No blooms here, yet, so thanks for sharing yours.)
I noticed that 4-20 thing when I sat down to make a journal entry. My azalea bushes are just starting to bud.
Those blooms are stunning! I only wish I could smell them 🙂 and I’m still smiling that you’re learning crochet with that project … it’s WAY more complicated than the simple v-stitch I’m doing. (so I guess the good news is that if you can make that scarf, the afghan will be a piece of cake!)
Gorgeous shots Kat and since you first mentioned your fear of running out of vermouth I swear I assess my bottle every time I use it! 🙂 It’s rotten and rainy here today so I think a Manhattan may be in order tonight!
Vermouth has become an item of hoarding around here! I fear we won’t outlast the liquor store’s re-opening! (Although, if they had asked me I would have told them that was a MOST ESSENTIAL business! lol)
Oh lilacs. I love them and you have shared some gorgeous photos. Happy Tuesday.
wow! your lilacs are way ahead of ours over here. The photos are gorgeous!!
