Sweet May hath come to love us, flowers, trees, their blossoms don; And through the blue heavens above us, the very clouds move on. — Heinrich Heine
While March was eons long, April has just sprinted on by – hasn’t it? I guess when each day is the same as the last, at first they seem to drag and then they pick up speed!
May, I hope you do come to love us with more sunny days, mild weather, and some patio happy hours!
I spent more time this week outside with the big camera, practicing more! Better? Maybe not so much, but I enjoyed every moment and was inspired to keep trying! And May ushers in Macro May!! Look for more photos during the month! We had a very rainy April (only 12 days without any precipitation) but grey days are perfect for taking photos! And getting outdoors after the rain and capturing it dripping off the lilacs made the volumes of rain *almost* worth it! Ha!!
I don’t know how many of you use Nextdoor (I use the app on my phone), but over the last week or so there has been an uptick in people women in my neighborhood trying to find a hairdresser who would break the rules to cut and/or color their hair. I was happy to see that these posts have been met with no success (or at least no one openly offers in the post to provide these services). And then Julia Farwell-Clay posted this on IG! I just want to ROAR with her with my own Badger-striped hair!
My new Twitter Daily Chuckle (or two!) is Rate My Skype Room!
I was thrilled to see that Joy Harjo was named Poet Laureate again! And through her I discovered The Poetry of Home! You can listen to Joy read Perhaps the World Ends Here. You should listen to all the installments! They are just wonderful! You will find Robert Pinsky, Juan Felipe Herrera, and Natasha Trethewey. Each installment is just perfect for these “stay at home” days.
And The Poetry of Home is just the inspiration I needed to gather some yarn bits to start Susan B. Anderson’s Little House pattern that Kym highlighted this week. My plan is to make one for each of my children with a little Pandemic Tag on it, but I think I will also include the words of a poem too! (FYI, Little House pattern is currently discounted…so if you are thinking about it, don’t think too much longer!)
Mary is a voracious knitter and I think I found her next sweater to devour! And the Ravelry Hive Mind must all be of the same thought because this sweater from 2017 is in my “Hot Right Now Top 20”!
Want something to stir your sock mojo? These beauties are perfect for spring (AND FREE!!)
And there you have it, dear friends – Happy May to you all! See you back here on Monday!
So many good things here Kat! Thank you. Is that your lilac at the top? Ours are still tight, tight, tight buds. Thanks for all the great links and cheers to a great weekend! Happy May!
Yes, that is my Lilac bush! 🙂 It was something that Steve saved from someone’s rubbish about 4 years ago and this year it had dozens of blooms! I think it finally is happy! 🙂
my sister is a hairdresser and I cannot count the times she told me of some of her brash customers asking her to do hair at home. The only person she has given a haircut is her husband who is living with her! She is adhering to the rules. I’ve never been so grateful to growing out my bangs as I am right now (is that a good sentence..??) It just keeps growing and growing. Have a great weekend Kat!
I, too, have become a fan of Rate My Skype Room. It happened when looking at my son’s Twitter account I found a link to HIS picture & rating on that site! He is a White House reporter for the AP & now does his MSNBC appearances from his kitchen table with a brick wall behind him!
I’ve been wishing I had some lilacs to cut and bring in the house (no buds this year), but your lovely photo certainly reminds me of the lovely scent. I like your idea of knitting little houses for your kids and am going to toss my stash to find some appropriate colors to start one for Ryan. Have a good weekend, Kat!
I love lilacs! Had to leave 7 bushes when we moved last fall and I miss them this spring! The smell is in my top two favorites. I am so glad you got your ‘big camera’ out. I seam to have to ‘schedule’ in moments to use my big camera. Went up in the mountains yesterday and forgot the big camera, aging and the forgetful mind….oye vey!
I cannot wait for lilacs!! I have a couple more weeks, I think. Have a great weekend, Kat!
That’s a lovely shot of the lilacs — truly one good thing to come out of all this rain! I am hoping for a drier and warmer May that will allow me to spend more time outside.
Funny thing: I rarely get my hair cut during normal circumstances (maybe twice a year, at most) and don’t color it, so I haven’t felt at all bad about not being able to go to the salon. But this morning I looked at my hair in the mirror and thought, hmm, it’s getting a little long!
I think April’s speed relates to us settling in to this new normal. Not that every day is easy. And yet spring is coming! Nothing improves the mood than the smell of flowers in bloom. I will miss the lilacs in our Maine house this year.
Thanks for ALL THAT Kat! The rate my room – hysterical. Our lilacs still have a ways to go but they are such a spring treat. Have a wonderful weekend!
Happy May!
You are totally making me want a big fancy camera. Ugh.
My lilacs are so close. Your picture made me sniff my computer screen, but no luck – we don’t have smell-o-vision YET.
I saw you queue Mary’s sweater on Ravelry earlier this week and then I followed suit. It’s gorgeous! And thanks for the sock pattern – I’ve been considering a jump back into the world of socks.
Those lilacs … swoon! and woohoo for the Ankers love 🙂 It was a fun and fast knit … and I would totally make another one!
Such pretty lilacs. I love them. Ours are blooming reluctantly. First they were hailed on and then snow fell. One bush has a few blooms and the other none. I love their scent. The little house idea is a good one.
Those houses are adorable-what a cool idea. I’m on Next Door-sometimes I wish I wasn’t some of the posts-oy.
