Green was the silence, wet was the light, the month of June trembled like a butterfly. — Pablo Neruda
Well, that was an odd May, wasn’t it? But it’s over and this morning June greeted me with a chill in the air, a brilliant sunrise, and a riot of Weigela blooms!
I reveled in #MeMadeMay all month long. And I have not stopped! This morning I emptied out my closet with the intention of downsizing to just me-made clothes. May also had a wide variety of weather, so I could wear flannels, wool, and yes, even sleeveless tops!
I made note of things that I “need” (okay…I am pretty sure I don’t really need anything, but I noted some items are well loved and often worn, so I have started a list of “makes” for the coming months.)
I tried to take a photo of “life” every day in May, but I was not successful every day and I have given up on 1 Second daily videos for the time being.
What is there to say… there was an awful lot of drinking in May and lots of staying home. However, we have gotten creative with Happy Hour – I am going to try and “take us out of Pittsburgh” with cocktail and food a couple times a month. Hopefully these “stay-cation” Happy Hours will feel different, since the surroundings sure as hell aren’t! Ha!
Also, when you can’t go anywhere you begin to notice other things, or at least I have. The greening of my neighborhood was truly a site to behold and May’s chillier temps made that greening up a gradual affair, rather than over and done with and for that I am profoundly grateful!
What did you notice about May? What was good? Bad? Better?
Wow! You made a lot of things! You really have a closet full of items you made yourself?!? I have zero things in my closet that I have made so I am very impressed with all of the lovely items you have created. Now I feel like such a chump! and I love how you have documented much of your life in May through your sweet pictures. Thanks so much for sharing. Maybe I will be inspired to get busier?…
The impressive part was that the only **new** thing was my finished Romi Mystery Shawl! Everything else was already in my closet!
What a treat you’ve provided us with – a whole month of your Me Made photos, plus your May life photos! You have sewn and knitted some really lovely items, and I applaud your Me Made closet and future makes. Way to go, Kat!
wow on the made photos! isn’t it nice to wear what you create with your own hands? I think there’s been a lot of staying at home all around!
Your rhubarb soda sounds delicious! (PS I have the same set of glasses!)
I am impressed with all of the things that you have made!!! I have a February Lady Sweater, a couple of shawls, and several pairs of socks. Guess I’d better get busy!!! 🙂
All of this is so good! Despite the SAH it looks like you’ve done well! And yes on the drinking part. May…more outside time at last!
Wow – lots of making for you. Terrific work Kat. May seemed to fly by despite being at home. The growing season was not cancelled and for that I am grateful. The news, however, is tragic and sad and frustrating and and and.
That is ONE FUN CLOSET, Kat!
I’ll never forget the first time I flew in to PGH. I had lived in CO a few years, and an old friend had just had her first baby. This was about 20 years ago. As soon as your city was in view, I couldn’t get over how GREEN it looked to me. Glad it’s warming up so you can enjoy it now!
I am so impressed with all of your Me Made Items! How awesome is that??!
I also did a lot of drinking in May, which I definitely don’t typically do. I can go, literally, years with no alcohol. So that’s kind of scary for me.
I loved all of your daily pictures, too. And I enjoy your blog so much, in general 🙂
May was very strange — I feel like we got all the seasons within a span of a couple of weeks. But it certainly went faster than the months before it, and I guess that’s a good thing. I am ready for June and for consistently warmer temperatures!
I like your idea of your happy hours becoming staycations. I think we’re going to do something similar; we don’t normally go on vacation in the summer, but something about not being able to go anywhere is of course making me want to be able to get away.
I am in awe of your Me Made May! I just ordered some linen and hope to do some sewing in the near future. I would love a well curated wardrobe of hand-mades.
Nicely done, Kat!
I’m ready to welcome June. It’s my favorite month . . .
What great photo sets! My May was a blur of knitting, reading, and searching for the positive. A notable lack of energy. A sameness to the days. June? Who knows?
This is absolutely the best, most inspiring post I’ve come across in ages!!! You are my hero!!!!!
You had a lovely Me Made May, Kat, congratulations! and I think you did a nice job of capturing “life” (at home, in a pandemic) for the other photo set. I’d love to know more about your cocktail staycation recipes!
May was certainly weird weather wise-even here. I finally washed and put way my puffy jacket and Uggs Memorial weekend. Happy Friday to you.
