I cannot remember the last time I shared what is my “current world” (small as that world is these days) So here you have a little slice of my world!
Celebrating —
K-A-M-A-L-A…. oh my gosh! Yes, there were tears and cheers! I am so thrilled! But honestly… watching Kamala debate Pence in October will be a must see event! Ha! But we have reached the 80 day mark, people. 80 days!! Although, I think these next 80 days are going to be a really rocky ride… but I will take a moment to ask you all… are you registered to vote? Have you applied for your absentee ballot? 80 days will go a lot faster than we think!
Anticipating —
I am a huge proponent of my local library and usually I don’t mind waiting my turn for a book… that is until I listened to Isabel Wilkerson talk about her new book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. After listening to this and then this I don’t think patiently waiting to read this is an option. Now to decide, physical book? Kindle copy? Audible?
Contemplating —
Some weeks ago, I made myself a promise to *finish my plethora of in process projects before starting anything new* but boy… the new MDK Field Guide has some amazingly yummy things in it! I can’t get the Aperture Stole out of my head and I am itching to make it however, I have not bought any yarn… yet.
Harvesting —
I had a brief lull in bean production, but that has resolved and now I am back to picking an overflowing handful every day. And so.many.tomatoes! I roasted some cherry tomatoes yesterday. And have shared more tomatoes with neighbors… But I think the end is near for the plants. This heat has really put the garden on “fast forward” it seems. My containers look like they do after Labor Day and the tomato plants are about “done” so I don’t think I will have the luxury of a September garden that is producing anything significant.
Over —
This unrelentingly hot summer. Since Memorial Day we have only had 20 days where the temperature was between 70 and 80 degrees (no days below 70 at all) and 61 days of 90+ degrees. Steve has not mowed the yard since mid-June. I am not kidding you. We have had virtually no rain to speak of and it is so dry. It’s not that I want to usher in the next season early, but boy do I need a break from these endless days of heat and humidity. (And really… a week of soaking all day rain would be so welcome!!) The weather person (whose reliability in forecasting is really not good) says that next week no temps above 80…. I have my fingers crossed!
And with that… this week is a wrap! I hope your weekend is exactly what you need!
Oh, the Aperture Shawl is beautiful! Not a bad price for the kit, either. I would either go with Lake or Plum for me. (As I look at my stash and say hmm…)
Kamala wasn’t my first choice, but I am making popcorn, getting in my jammies and can’t wait to see Kamala and Pence debate, it should be epic! I wonder if ‘mother’ will be sitting next to Pence during debate,( he is not allowed to be with women without her), hahaha! I am praying daily that the Democrats send Trump and gang out of Washington with a land slide victory.
I have Caste on Audible, well worth listening to, an amazing book!
Our temps here in N. Colorado have been above 90 and I am sooo over it. Now we have HUGE fires to boot. The smoke, oy vey. We need rain and cooler temps. 45 days till the first average snow here, I am counting down. Count downs for me Nov. 3 and first snow.
I was excited about Biden’s vp choice, and doubly excited because she is so well-spoken that she’ll be able to deal with Trump’s bs and mop the floor with Pence during the debate. Ryan keeps cautioning me that the same people that elected Trump four years ago are still out there and will be voting again (you know, the same ones that refuse to wear masks), but I can’t help but hope. I hope our hopes are not dashed in November!
I’m on the waiting list for Caste from the library even though right now it’s more than a six-month wait; there’s only one copy available at the moment, but I have a strong feeling that the library will be acquiring more copies and I won’t actually have to wait that long.
I was very excited that Joe picked Kamala — my original dream ticket was Warren/Harris! Did you hear that her step-kids call her “Momala”?
We are definitely celebrating the ticket with you here!!!!! And, holy smokes, I didn’t realize how long you’d gone without rain ‘til you said Steve hasn’t had to mow in two months! Whoa. That’s some perspective. And I think it gives you full permission to be encouraging the season along! But not too fast….because we NEED these 80 days. Happy weekend to you!
I’m showing my flower ignorance – may I ask what kind of flower is in your banner? Is it a hibiscus? They seem to be blooming in my neck of the woods right now, but I’ve only seen them from afar.
The Aperture Stole looks so lovely – I can totally imagine wrapping up in that!
And yes – I am so excited about Kamala. Bring it on!! She’s seen everything and she’s ready for it.
Thanks for writing about Caste. I just got on the waitlist for an audio copy – I’m #73 and there are 9 copies. Yikes!!
HAve you read The Warmth of Other Suns? It is a such good book, I feel like every adult in the US should read it. I listened to it on audiobook this summer, an excellent production. So I was really excited to see the new book, but have your dilemma, maybe kindle + audiobook? I so value her work I’m happy to splurge when I do normally wait for the library copy.
I’m pretty happy about that Biden/Harris ticket, too! It was definitely a bright spot in this week’s news cycle. We have a similar lack of rain and our grass is burnt and brown. The tomatoes are just starting to ripen, I have picked 3 this week plus a handful of cherry tomatoes. I know we need the rain but I’d selfishly like to request that it holds off (or only rains at night) during my Cape Cod vacation!
Kamala FTW! A friend recommended Caste to me earlier this week, and it became my August purchase from Audible. Looking forward to it!
I cried a bit when I heard the news. Kamala! Don’t you think Fox news personalities would pronounce her name correctly? Not that I watch that news but beyond what they say being completely offensive, not pronouncing her name correctly is even more condescending then they usually are. Stay safe.
That stole is beautiful – so very tempting. I am doing my best not to wish away summer as it is not my favorite season. My tomato crop is a little disappointing this year – late and many with split tops. You are so right about the next 80 days being a rocky ride but as we say, I am going to buckle up and pray that this ticket will sweep the current disaster out of the White House. The addition of Harris is a great start.
like you I am thrilled with Kamala 🙂 Lovely post Kat!!!
Good stuff, Kat (and not all of it’s small 😉 !! I’d seen sneaks of the new MDK (Jeanette Sloan!!) on Instagram but didn’t realize it was out! Mood Cardigan!!! (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mood-cardigan)
