Today is going to need all sorts of magic… I have a clogged drain and no amount of *anything* worked to unclog it on Sunday and we tried practically all.day.long! It made for a contentious, irritating day… and yes, there were LOTS of raised voice conversations. So when I found this in my in-box yesterday, it was exactly what I needed. So with a nod to the brilliant Sarcastic Lutheran… I present my take on the Serenity Prayer for a Monday Morning!
Dear Monday
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change or fix like…
- clogged drains
- laundry
- neighbors who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum from me
Give me the courage to change the things I can (and a willing heart to do them!) like…
- my attitude… hoo boy does it need an adjustment
- renewed contentment with simply staying home
- the sheets, it is Monday after all
And the wisdom to know the difference…such as
- Not moving the things from one list to the other and vise versa.
AMEN!
P.S. I have been doing lots of OLW contemplations… and I think I might have found my word. Maybe.
Sounds like you’re due for some Monday magic, Kat. Hang in there! 🙂
I had a hard weekend so I tried my best to FOCUS on anything. I have been meditating and now have upped it to twice a day…these days are getting hard.
I love your Monday serenity prayer, and I send sympathy to you for the clogged drain. About a month ago I had to learn how to use a drain snake in NJ. I had a clogged drain there and it was my last desperate effort to unclog it before calling a plumber. Thankfully, it worked, and I hope yours gets fixed. May you find serenity soon, Kat!
This–this! I’m imagining a morning journal designed with these Serenity Prayer-style templates for each day of the year. Because we could all use a daily reminder of what is and is not in our power to control. And good luck with that drain. You’ve had your fair share of plumbing projects–I say this ought to be your last, in all fairness!
Nadia Boltz-Weber is brilliant! I read her take on the Serenity Prayer yesterday and it really helped me re- think some things. Good luck with your drain!
Wishing you magic!!! And a clear drain.
I hope your clogged drain gets fixed and your Monday turns into something good! Or at least serene!
Oh man, we were dealing with a clogged drain late last week. We now own our own SNAKE! I hope yours is fixed… Ha. What a great prayer!!
It must be the season for plumbing challenges. My husband took apart parts of a bathroom sink in a very small bathroom today. Then he had to go buy a new something or other. I just stayed out of the way and offered to do the clean-up. I love your Monday serenity prayer. Those who differ with us are always present. Let me know if you find a way to bridge the gap.
Good luck with the drain! Yikes! Your prayer makes me smile — I’m happy that you have your sense of humor intact. 🙂
I hope by now (because I’m catching up on my blog reading) the drain is unclogged and you’ve successfully been able to redirect your frustration!
I hope your got your drain clear now? I also hope your have made peace with some of the really difficult things on your list.
Clogged up drains and neighbors-not sure which one is worse!
