Greetings Unravelers!
Is the rapidly approaching Christmas adding stress to your season? I am progressing nicely on my few Christmas makes, so my stress level is low! On Monday, I had the most curious dream and so in-between laundry, I started going through my scrap fabric bin to see what I might find. Tuesday I sat down at the sewing machine and voilà!
This antique doll cradle has been in my home since before my girls! They used it for years, but for some time now it has just sat collecting dust in my home and it is time that a new generation plays with it! So I made a new bed and a wee pillow, and a linen sheet, because why not! The best part? The tiny quilt! I had made this piece in 1992 and entered it in the Tulip Time Quilt Show were it won second place. It is paper-piecing, and hand quilted and although the red fabrics have bled a bit over the years with washing, I don’t think it detracts too much. It was well used – the girls used it for their dolls and now it will warm Vivi’s!
On my list today is to finish a pair of Little Dino’s for Winston! I have one started, so they are “underway”!!
Sadly, I do not have any reading updates this week, but I am deeply immersed in A Promised Land! It is so good! Although, I am quite sure I’d listen to Obama read me the telephone book! It is fascinating hearing him talk about all the things!
That is all I have for today, as always – if you wrote a post to share, please leave your link below and thank you!
Your doll cradle is wonderful and just waiting for a doll to be put down lovingly for a nap. It’s so interesting that it was inspired by a dream! I’m trying to find moments when Justin isn’t around to work on his hat, but he is here to help me with the 3-30″ of snow that’s coming. Nobody can agree on the totals but I do hope it closer to the lower amount!
I love the doll cradle, and especially the quilt!
What a precious gift! I’m sure Vivi is going to be thrilled with it and will use it for years to come.
Oh Kat! I love that little doll cradle with a linen sheet and pillow. The tiny quilt is gorgeous! Vivi is going to love having that for her dolls. And the “dinos” for Winston are great – I had not seen that pattern. Susan A is so clever. I’ve not read as much as I would like – mostly because of work and baking. But that’s ok, I’m enjoying my days and I feel relaxed about the holidays!
What a perfect gift, Kat! Charming and delightful and Just Right. XO
(And . . . I probably admired your quilt back in 1992. My mom and I always went to the Quilt Show during Tulip Time.) (And ate elephant ears. But that’s a whole other thing.)
Vivi is one lucky little girl!!!
That looks so sweet! She will love it. The old quilt looks perfect with your new touches. Outstanding work!
I have been repairing an old quilt that I made for my daughter years ago. I am just putting on the new binding after repairing or replacing damaged fabric and hand quilting the squares. I am pleased with it and hope she will be too (she is 31 now). It has been my COVID time project. (I am a slow worker!)
I wish I knit well enough to make those cute dinos! Can’t wait to see your finished ones.
That little cradle is so cute! Will you dare ship it to her? That seems a scary prospect these days! I remember making a quilt and bed for Hannah’s doll cradle years ago and now I use that quilt as a placemat in my kitchen – it makes me smile.
Those pieces are adorable! I tried sewing a very small paper piecing and I have such a hard time with small pieces despite my little hands!
What a sweet gift for Vivi. I love a little faded fabric on a quilt. It gives it that special patina that says hand made with love. Enjoy your week. I do think one of the few benefits of this pandemic is more relaxed holiday prep.
oh my that bed and the bedding is adorable! We have two doll beds that my husband made for our daughter’s American Girl dolls…I hope when (if) I have grands I can freshen them up and watch them get used once more.
How beautiful! That’s my favorite kind of gift…I wonder who will cherish the gifting most–you, Vivi, or her mom!
Your quilt is gorgeous! And what a beautiful gift to Vivi! I just love all of this.
I’m also listening to Barack Obama’s new book and it feels like we’re sitting down and having a conversation. Enjoy your time with him!
oh Kat, that doll bed is beyond precious and what a treasure for little Vivi! Curious, are you listening to A Promised Land on 1.0 speed? I’m planning to read the book so I can highlight to my heart’s content. still, spending 29 hours listening to that voice … well … pure pleasure!
Oh how sweet!! I have a few doll beds, too, that were the girls’… now the granddaughters! I should make some adorable little quilts! Thanks for the inspo (and adding to my To-Do List!)! 🙂
