…is a respite from The Very, Very, Incredibly Busy Weekend.
It was full. So full.
My weekend started with some al Fresco-soak in the sunshine-sip a couple of beers dining. Yes, sunshine!! Temperatures that were well above freezing! Gosh, it felt so good and was the perfect way to welcome the weekend!
Saturday we headed out to find some asparagus (we didn’t) and get plants for both the flower containers and the vegetable garden (we got a few…sigh). Our local vegetable/garden center was a huge disappointment. A huge, gigantic disappointment. They had plants… lots of the same kind of plants. Perfect if you want pink petunias in every container. Less than perfect if that was not the look you were going for. Oh… and there was not one single impatien. So… on my list this week is to get out to another greenhouse for some variety for our shaded patio!
The remainder of the weekend we spent working on some major changes to the current garden beds. We lost a couple of shrubs over the winter, which has given us the opportunity to rework a couple of garden beds. Plus I have a few things that needed dividing… and once we started, we just kept on going… until we were about ready to fall over on Sunday afternoon! (and no, we did not finish, but the remaining little garden beds just need a wee bit of weeding. Oh, and we need so.much.mulch…ugh)
So that brings me to Monday… my take a big breath and ease into a busy week day. On the top of my list is to give myself a little rescue manicure this morning. (a desperately needed manicure thanks to the weekend!)
And the only other thing on my list today is to put together a bag for tomorrow when I am helping at the polls for our election. It is an entirely local election for us this time and so it won’t be busy… (how sad is that!) I need to have some things to knit and some things to read so I need to get that sorted today.
I hope your Monday will be amazing no matter how many things you have on your list. I will see you back here on Wednesday (albeit a little later than usual) for some Unraveling!
We are enjoying all the work he did last year on our beds, they are flourishing and blooming like crazy! No vegetable garden this year though. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather and it was so nice to pause.
It was a gorgeous weekend here too. Sorry your local garden center was such a disappointment…hoping you can find what you want somewhere else. We dropped off our ballots on Thursday, so we will not be heading to the polls tomorrow. I wonder if you will have a lot of drop offs too in your area as opposed to folks voting in person?
Sounds like such a fulfilling day in the garden, Kat! I love those days. In our house, we used to end them by walking down the street and indulging in the Indian restaurant’s buffet as reward. (Looking forward to that being possible again, one of these days.) Gorgeous iris photo this morning!
I went to 4 difference nurseries between Friday and Saturday. I’m fortunate that the ones here have a lot of variety although there was a decided lack of coleus this year. It might just still be a bit early.
Your weekend sounds perfect for (finally) Spring! … and thank you for your time at the polls tomorrow.
I hope your time at the polls tomorrow is much more pleasant than your last volunteer experience!
I hate to hear that your local greenhouse was a disappointment. And now that you mention it, MY local greenhouse was also overrun with petunias, lol. Maybe there’s a petunia surplus right now??! I hope you find what you’re looking for on your next excursion!
Enjoy your gardens!
It really was a perfect weekend for being outside in the garden. I think come this weekend, when it’s supposed to be HOT HOT HOT, you will be glad you did most of it already!
Have fun at the polls today — I’m sure you’ll have lots of knitting time!
It’s so nice to get out in the garden — but it is HARD work! Hope you’re keeping yourself busy at the polls today. I did that earlier this month — a local election with only ONE issue on the ballot (and not controversial at all). We only had 79 voters all day long. . . (I did get a good start on a baby gift sweater, though.) As for the impatiens . . . there has been a virus among bedding impatiens for the last couple of years, and they’ve become very hard to come by. So sad . . . Hope you find some!
Man, I can believe you felt like falling over after all the garden work. Sometimes the garden centers are hit or miss. We have two locally owned where I usually shop. The prices are a little higher but the quality is good.
