Are beautifully overcast and almost chilly enough to need a sweater!
This morning it feels like a switch has been turned off as August ushered in some much cooler nights. This paired with the now noticeably darker mornings and earlier darker evenings brings the knowledge that summer is not here to stay.
(Outside of my gardening woes) It has been the most glorious summer I can remember in quite some time. The pace at which I have been savoring summer has been perfect. I am not rushing to the “next thing” and while I am very disappointed in my gardens lack of productivity… my attitude of “it is what it is” is helping ease that disappointment. One thing I love is puttering in the garden in the early morning hours and productivity or not, that is where I like to be.
The outside time has brought another treat this summer… I have been enjoying the antics of a pair of Hairy Woodpecker’s brood of chicks and their unceasing demands for “more food…NOW”! Watching their parents fill the hungry mouths has been a delight!
One thing growing that has been on “hyper-growth” this year are my herbs… particularly my basil! And while I am sad that Kym is not having the same success… I am thankful that she shared a link for Basil Bombs. That bushy plant is about to get “de-leafed” and my freezer is waiting for those little green treasures. I don’t have an ice cube tray but I think I can make it work with “snack sized” ziplock bags.
One final very good thing from the weekend was an Amazon delivery that has brought things into focus… lol. Yep, I got an Ottlite and have been doing some stitching this weekend. What an incredible difference *seeing* makes! This stitching project is eons old (and I think it might almost qualify as an antique!) But, I made some very good progress yesterday once I got the right distance figured out! This is my “trial run” to see how it goes, and if it goes well… I have my eye on a couple of patterns from Etsy. (namely this and this)
And that is all I have for today… I will see you all back here on Wednesday!
Your Monday and new month are full of delights! Happy basil gathering, stitching, and I love the Squashbottoms!
Oh those “Squashbottom” patterns are so darn cute! Glad the light is working for you. This morning was the first morning in quite some time that I had to put a sweatshirt on when I first got up!! The cooler fresh air feels so good to me.
I’ve been wondering how to make basil bombs without ice cube trays! I’m so glad you’re enjoying a slow paced summer this year.
It did feel so much like fall yesterday evening and this morning! I’m not trying to rush summer out of here, but I enjoyed that cool air and low humidity.
I think you’ll be fine with small ziplocks for your basil bombs. If you freeze them flat on a tray, they’ll also take up less space in the freezer. I don’t have a traditional ice cube tray, but when I need to freeze something, I use a silicone tray that I got when I was making homemade baby food, and it works great.
Ahhh!! Cross stitching patterns are such a rabbit hole! They’re always so tempting 🙂 I’m glad to hear that your new light is helpful – it makes such a difference!
We’re lucky that our basil is doing really great. We made a big batch of pesto this weekend and it’s delicious. Yum!
Enjoy the cooler weather!
I agree, last night I felt a shift in the air, (two light blankets), it was glorious and the sunrise 0558….my favorite season is coming. However, I know we are still in for hot, hot weather and fires and flooding! But, I can feel a shift and Im dancing! Love your cross stitch.
That light looks like a wonderful tool. I freeze basil in cupcake tins. I use paper liners and coarsely chop the basil in my food processor. I fill it up and then drizzle in just a little bit of oil. I imagine I use less than the linked recipe but everyone has their own preferences. I put a couple of Tablespoons – maybe three – in the bottom of the liner. They are not even half full. Once frozen, I take them out of the tin but leave them in the liner and put them in a zip-lock in the freezer. They could easily be stored in another reusable container now that I think about it. They are glorious to have in the winter.
I think I have that stitch pattern!! I was digging through some kits I bought and contemplating on whether to start one or not. I thought it would make a nice gift. The cool breezes have been so nice I wish they were here to stay!!
Love the “antique”!
