(And the necessary beverage to help! Ha!!)
In my household, we have finally gotten past the “Holiday Weeks” that encompass the end of the year and generally spill into the New Year. Today is the first “normal Monday” I have had in a while and it feels so good!
We had some snow on Friday for a hot minute… sigh. By Sunday it was all gone and the rains returned… by Sunday afternoon my poor yard was just one giant soggy (which then turned into the frozen tundra this morning!) Yep, weather whiplash is in high gear here… 40’s yesterday and a bitter 18ยฐ this morning.
I purposely left my Dickens Village up when I took down the remainder of Christmas… I really enjoyed it this year and leaving ย it up for these extra days has been a treat. But today I will take it all down and tuck it safely away for another year. I am ready for a “cleaner” mantle.
Last week Bonny shared that she picked up some instant espresso to treat herself and I loved this little idea of “treating oneself”. It is one of the best self care things ever… to do something special for yourself! Some years ago I “treated” myself to a wee little Bialetti Moka Express Pot. It was the best purchase I ever made for myself! I soon added a 6-cup model and I use one of these pots every single day. I don’t own a drip coffee pot any longer. I make myself a pot every single morning and on the morning’s that Steve is here then I use the larger pot to split between us. About once a quarter I have to change the rubber gasket and once a year I put in a new filter in as well. As you can see it is well-used! (Barkeepers Friend keeps it nice and shiny!) The best part is that the only “waste” I have on a daily basis are coffee grounds and I can put them in a container to mulch into my garden.
And that is my best advice for you on this “back to normal” (??) Monday… treat yourself to something special today! And skip those guilty thoughts… just treat yourself! You are so very worth it!
Happy Monday All!
I am going to try this as I bet it’s much better than instant! And as a plus, I love the Italian guy logo. It looks like he’s giving Monday the finger. (He’s most likely pointing his index finger for “number one” but I can imagine otherwise on a Monday.) Thanks, Kat!
All of this reminds me that I want/need to call and book another massage!! And a pedicure. I like your little pot. Very cute. I have not used a drip coffee maker in years…I perk coffee on top of the stove, or use a French press. I make it good and strong and always froth my milk. Love it! Our Christmas stuff is still up (I would take it down but someone else is not quite ready…). But, I have two tubs of Christmas stuff that did not get used this year…time to weed through that and set aside some things to donate! Happy Monday Kat!
This is a great reminder to treat yourself! I bought a hand held milk frother last week and I’ve been adding foamed milk and honey and cinnamon to espresso and it’s delicious! I put away the obvious Christmas stuff but I leave up the various trees with twinkle lights until some time in February. It cheers me up and looks so cozy!
I make myself a 14 oz. latte every morning with my Krups espresso machine. Or maybe it is Braun; I have gone through several in the last 30 years. And I have a couple Bilettis in different sizes. They make it possible to have a latte even when we are camping.
The last few years when I was working, the office had single serving coffee machine, a commercial version of the Nespresso. I found that two *cups* of espresso plus several little containers of creamer made an acceptable latte. As in, “love the one you’re with”. And it saved me $4 – 5 every day.
I am guessing you are not one of those people who miss going to a coffee shop because you have your own fancy coffee at home — and it’s probably a heck of a lot cheaper! You even have the pretty mug to put it in, too. I have a hand-me-down Nespresso machine that you’re reminding me I should really get out and use.
Treating yourself . . . is a really wonderful thing to do! I love your little espresso pot. The shape is so pleasing (as is the beverage, I would imagine). ๐
Treating yourself is a splendid idea. I believe we treated ourselves with a take out dinner this evening. I have a hand frother and should get it back into service.
Wow – what a way to bring a little luxury into your life each morning. You definitely deserve it, Kat! I recently bought some instant espresso and have been enjoying homemade lattes with almond milk in the afternoons. What a treat! And so much cheaper than going out for coffee daily. I hope you get a little more snow soon… I think pretty snow on the ground makes all this frigid weather more bearable.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
What a wonderful treat, indeed! I wonder, though…I think I might need a First Cup from the coffee pot before I could create something spectacular like that for my Second Cup ๐
And poo to that weather. It’s the constant flux that creates the problems! Slippy/icy/muddy/mess.
Stay cozy.
Treating yourself is definitely something we should all be doing every now and then. Sadly I cannot drink coffee as it make me very very ill, I haven’t had a cup for over thirty years.
Coffee grinds are also a good slug deterrent if you are ever plagued with them in the garden.
We have weather whiplash all year round here, and I love that expression it perfectly sums up British weather, we Brits could win awards for the amount we talk about the weather it is a national pastime.
after a trip to Italy my husband declared he had the best coffee there with a moka pot and has been trying to recreate the experience. He has come close but finding the right coffee beans is the key (he has the moka pot!).
