Is still the weekend! And what could be better than that?!
If the blooms on my tomato plants are an indicator of fruit volume… it looks to be a banner year! I am practicing patience waiting for said fruit to develop. But the plants are lush, green and growing like crazy… so I have hope!
It is been a curious start to summer. The lawn looks like late August…very, very dead. Steve has not had to mow in 2 weeks. And the heat is absolutely ON outside. I hope you all have AC… if not, Life Kit shared some great tips for staying cool! I am doing my weeding early in the morning hours… and why is it that the weeds regardless of the amount of water they get?!
My summer reading is going exceedingly well. I am currently listening to Shelby Van Pelt’s Remarkably Bright Creatures… and it is lovely! So lovely! If you need a reading suggestion… NPR’s Books We Love list came out last week and it is chock full of good things! I added quite a few to my TBR list!
Enjoy your weekend Monday! See you all back here on Wednesday!
That looks like a corker of a tomato plant.
Your tomatoes look great! The ones fenced in in Ryan’s garden are doing well, but my few extras in pots here are deliciously attractive to the squirrels and deer. I haven’t mowed in two weeks either; our lawn looks like it usually does in mid-August. Thanks for the NPR link!
Awesome tomato plant! Ours are flowering and we have some fruit that has formed. Fletch even said that one is beginning to turn an orangey color!! Meanwhile, our eggplants are out of control! We are now having our lawn mown by a local guy…but every other week…ours is still green (for the time being), but we sure could use some rain. Thanks too for the NPR book link.
I could SMELL that vine! I know it’s early, too early, but I just love the smell of tomato vines. Reminds me of both of my grandpas, forever growing beefsteaks…slicing…and sprinkling with salt.
And the mowing. Brown here, too. We’ve mowed twice in a month. And the second time was really just to get the weeds that had popped up! The grass hadn’t grown a bit!
Happy reading + listening to you.
Gah! The weeds! I’m pretty sure there are many varieties of weeds that thrive in drought conditions. Which is so annoying. Your tomato plant looks absolutely divine, and like Carolyn says . . . I can smell that tomato-y smell of summer right through the computer! 🙂
I suspect there are some weeds that would survive a nuclear bomb! As much as I hate dealing with them, sometimes doing so makes me appreciate the plants I DO want in my garden even more. And I’m sure the rain we are getting today will help with the lawns!
our lawn is mostly dead as well. We have an inground watering system but I think it’s awfully wasteful to water a lawn (and I have to pay for the water to boot since it’s city water). I am gleefully hiding inside my home enjoying the AC.
