Is a continuation of the weekend.
I thought I’d share some of the things that have made my weekend extra wonderful!
First, I saw this on IG and I had a batch of focaccia in the fridge… so on Saturday I did a bit of a riff on it. One russet potato, a couple of shallots, and some cheddar and gruyere cheeses and we had the most delicious “potato bread” I have ever eaten! I followed the baking instructions for Richard Reinhard’s focaccia not the IG post baking instructions. The leftover potato focaccia was just as good reheated with some fried eggs for Sunday night dinner!
I have been enjoying the new On Being season and on Sunday I spent an hour with Ada Limón. It was so delightful to hear Ada read some of her poems from The Hurting Kind and of course, I now have some new favorites! A bonus was listening to Ada read A New National Anthem.
As for today… I *think* I will begin a sleeve on my handspun sweater! Yes, the body is almost done! I have about one inch of 2×2 ribbing. Today is a bit gloomy here… a good day to knit and think about President Carter, his dear wife, Rosalynn, and his family.
See you all back here on Wednesday!
The news about President Carter is sad. One of the Good guys. That bread looks amazing. Glad I’d had my lunch before seeing your picture.
That looks delicious and it looks like your potatoes are sliced perfectly thin! I especially like your idea of serving it with fried eggs for dinner.
President Carter has led a wonderful exemplary life and it seems he is approaching the end of it with courage and grace.
That bread looks great! I am sadden about President Carter but he is an example of a life well lived. may we all experience that!
Your potato focaccia looks amazing!!! So sad to hear about President Carter, but he has lived his life well.
Your focaccia looks better than the IG one! Well done and with fried eggs? Perfection! Agreeing with others about President Carter. Any time someone goes on hospice care it is sad. I have a book of his poetry upstairs and I need to take that out to read some.
Yum, that looks so good! I’m glad to hear that you got more than one meal out of it.
I was sad to hear about President Carter, but it strikes me that he is concluding his life in the same manner he’s lived it, with love and dignity. What a marvelous example of a good human being he has been.
Thanks for that link to A New National Anthem. There’s so much that’s uncomfortable about all(?), almost all(?) of our national recitations–this poem moved me a few times over.
And, damn, that potato bread! You hit it out of the park! And with an egg? Perfect. If you ask me, an egg turns just about anything into a full-fledged meal :).
Your bread is making my stomach growl!
I also listened to the Ada Límon interview and LOVED it. It was so funny and moving. The quote that I wrote down is how she has found that she has “more time for tenderness.” I just love that.
The bread looks delicious. Former President Carter continues to lead by example. I read some touching tributes and messages to his family in our local newspaper today. And Ada Limon, wasn’t she fabulous. (I must learn how to type that symbol over the o.)
Ada Limón. She’s so wonderful. And I’ve been thinking of Jimmy Carter for days. What a life – every moment lived with dignity, integrity, and purposeful action. Such an example – for all of us. Can’t wait to see your sweater. . . XO
