Whew! It’s been a week… and I have arrived on Friday with a completed list! Yes, yes! All the sewing is done! I am closing in the the toe of the second red sock! And I have started on the Vacation List!
And I managed to stumble across a few things this week that are share worthy! So lets get started!

As you all know, I love a good cocktail. I especially love the complex layers of flavor that an aperitif provides. (Think Aperol, Campari, Fernet Branca, Amaro, etc.) This week, I discovered Cynar (pronounced Chee-nahr) and I have a new love! It is made from artichokes(!!) along with some other ingredients and I think the flavor is not as bitter as Campari and Aperol… but it makes a delightfully complex cocktail. This week I made a Cynar Negroni (equal parts dry gin, sweet vermouth, and cynar) I liked it better than a “regular” Negroni, as did Steve. But my favorite of the week’s “Taste Testing” was the new to me Bensonhurst. (if you scroll down you will find the recipe here) We tried a number of different rye’s and our favorite was the smokier flavored Double Barrel Old George Rye from Grand Traverse Distillery. If you are looking for a new addition to your drink repertoire, I highly recommend Cynar!

A knitted skirt crossed my path this week and it has been rattling around my brain ever since. (Apparently others have been struck by this same phenomena!) Some years ago I knit a skirt (Ravelry Link) and I wore the absolute hell out of it and it was one of my most comfortable knits! I am contemplating… but I am not loving a skirt of a linen/cotton blend knitted fabric. I have had poor results with linen/linen blend knitted fabrics… they grow. So I am thinking that a wool/cotton blend might be smarter. (Hello, Coast… yes, I am thinking about you!) No swatching will happen before May… but I might be looking at colors!

I have prepared myself for a nationwide ban on Mifepristone… I mean really, does anyone think that a ruling delay to Friday at midnight could mean anything positive? My rage has reached the Off the Charts level. Some years ago I read The Power and recently I discovered that Amazon has made a series based on the book. I have watched a couple of episodes and admit to recently fantasizing about obtaining the power… I mean, a good jolt is what some of these people need, imo.
And that is all I have for this week! I will be back on Monday with my word update!
I probably drink more beer than cocktails (when I drink which doesn’t happen very often anymore), but one of my fantasies is visiting you in Pittsburgh and inviting myself to cocktail hour! Maybe someday …
And I have also fantasized about obtaining The Power. Some people are going to be in big trouble if that ever happens.
Doesn’t that skirt look fabulous? I looked at the link for Coast and Fig or Cassis look fab!! I, too, am not sure about the cotton/linen blend, but have not made up my mind yet. Was also looking at Cotlin from KnitPicks (much less $$). I love Campari & seltzer, but Cynar sounds/looks interesting. May need to search that out! Thanks Kat and have a fabulous weekend.
Ooh, I like Bonny’s idea — maybe one of these days we need to do an in-person Read With Us meeting at your house so you can make us all cocktails!
I am really upset at the way things appear to be going, and I am really so baffled by why some people in this country are so bothered about how other people want to live their lives and the choices they make about their bodies. Instead of women having power, how about we give all men a way to experience having a period, giving birth, and going through menopause? I have a feeling a lot of minds would change.
I have had to just tune out this week. I know that’s not a good thing, and I’m very privileged to be able to do so, but I might just explode otherwise . . . and that’s not good either. I’m not much of a cocktail drinker (I mean, I used to be but . . . I’m just lazy and then my bartender grew up and moved out of the house . . . ), but I’d be all in for trying cocktails with you. 😉 And I have been looking at that skirt, too. But absolutely not with linen because knitting with linen never seems to work out for me.
I guess the good thing about being a late commenter on this post is that the decision that dropped yesterday was a good one. For now, at least.
That skirt looks very enticing ! I’ve never dared knitting a skirt myself, because I fear it will wear out so easily, especially of course on the bottom. What is your experience there ? ( and would a merino/cotton blend hold ? they sure have a great amount of colours to choose from ! )
These are great questions, José! The green skirt that I linked to… well I outgrew the skirt before it wore out! I knit it out of Elsbeth Lavold’s Silky Wool. (But my experiences with linen yarn has not been as great. I have knit 3 sweaters with linen and they all have worn horribly. They grow, they don’t wear well, and they need washing after every wearing.
My success with Holst Garn’s Coast… is great! I have knit 3 sweaters with it. They are some of my favorite sweaters. They wear well, don’t sag, and they wash and wear well! I have also knit with some of Holst Garn’s Tides (their silk/wool blend) which also wears beautifully!
