Greetings dear Unravelers and Happy Last Wednesday of September!
I got my COVID/flu jab yesterday and this morning I am definitely feeling it this morning. I am happy to say that I have overcome last week’s pattern hurdle with sock one and finished it! Sock two was started yesterday afternoon!
I am also happy that there have been a handful of days that made a lapful of woolly knitting a delight so I have added several repeats to my Pressed Flowers Wrap… the end is getting closer!
I should have gotten some sewing done this month, but thanks to Sherman it did not happen… sigh. But I am happy to say that he is almost 100% again… his hearing has returned, he has had no more “spells” and so it seems likely that it was some sort of middle/inner ear infection. He still has a few days of steroids but he is pretty much back to his normal silly self! I will put sewing on my list again for late October and cross my fingers! Ha!
It has been week of reading highs and lows. I finished what will absolutely be one of the best books I have read all year (My Friends by Hisham Matar) as well as a very good book (The Bee Sting by Paul Murray which was not as good as Matar’s book but ymmv). I also bailed on a book… (Small Mercies… I think this was just the wrong time for this book for me.)
Since finishing those books I have had trouble settling in with another book. I started listening to Mrs. Dalloway and have no thoughts yet about it. At night I started The Garden of Evening Mists… no thoughts on that one either. Good Book Hangover is real, folks. Yesterday, Amazon had a “deal” on a couple of Claire Keegan short stories collections, so I picked them up and hope that a short story or two will cure my hangover! Fingers crossed!
There you have my week… what about you? What are you making and reading this week?
As always, if you wrote a post to share leave your link below and thank you!
I’m glad you got the current vaccine but sorry you’re feeling it. I went last week but the pharmacist said that Medicare wasn’t paying for it yet, so I have another appointment tomorrow. I figured I can nap Friday if necessary and hope you can take it easy today. I hope Sherman stays well now, too. I bet Claire Keegan will cure that book hangover!
I got my covid/flu jab last Friday . . . and then slept the day away on Saturday. (Worth it.) I’m glad to hear you enjoyed My Friends! I’ve got that queued up and ready to start reading later today, so that makes me more enthusiastic about diving in. I read Small Mercies a couple of months ago, and it really took me a long time to get into it. It turned out better than I thought it would, but I didn’t love it as much as other reviewers seemed to. Anyway, I hope you end up liking Garden of Evening Mists. It’s a beautiful book, and one of my favorites (but . . . of course, your mileage may vary). I’m so, so glad to hear that Sherman is feeling better!!!
I cannot wait to see your finished Pressed Flowers Wrap – I know it is not something I will knit, but it is just so pretty. I’m sticking with my Berocco Sock #2 and the Abstract Leaves Cowl before I attempt anything new. Work is busy, so… On the reading side of things I just started The Bee Sting and am enjoying it so far!
I am so glad to hear that Sherman is doing so much better! It’s amazing how much a problem in a tiny part of the ear can mess with things. I hope the side effects of your vaccines also wears off quickly so you can get back to the normal pace of life. I think you will love The Garden of Evening Mists — I think it’s a little slow to get into but builds quickly. I’m trying to finish up The Bee Sting this week. I love how many of us seem to be reading it right now!
I just started noodling around finding appointments for those shots. I have to check both of our calendars to make sure it’s all okay to commit.
I got my Covid booster too. This one had a little more side effects — really sore arm and just feeling off all day.
Hope you are feeling better today.
I’m wondering if inner ear issues are A Pug Thing? I met an adorable pug at a park last year, and the poor thing was prone to ‘walking’ in circles. (It was more like….circling in place, really.) I’m glad to hear you’re both getting your normal lives back!
I continue to knit up the back of Lincoln’s sweater. I’m at 19″; 5 to go for this piece of it. I’m starting to think I’ll designate Fridays for at least 2 hours of directed sweater time…because I DO have a goal to complete it by Nov. 1!
The only good thing about having Covid is now I don’t have to get the shot. At least not for a while. But I will be getting my flu shoot at my annual physical next month. I hope you’re feeling back to normal tomorrow. Sorry about Small Mercies, I really loved it. I hope you find a good book to cure your hangover!
I’d like Rusty to get the new Covid booster before he goes to Australia next month, but (surprisingly) the VA doesn’t have it! The pharmacy wanted to charge him $200. Harumph. May have to bite the bullet. It’s shocking how many people I “know” have or recently had Covid… they’re all internet friends, though!
I’m so glad to hear Sherman is feeling better. Whew! Sometimes when I’ve read a really good book, I choose another genre for my next read. Perhaps Claire Keegan will do the trick. Rest up. I got my vaccines a week apart and other than a sore arm and a slight headache for twelve hours, felt pretty good. As Kym says, it’s totally worth feeling a little blah.
